More than likely it is the resistor network. Usually if the motor is defective it's defective. There is no in between.

It's the resistor. You can replace the part for around $40 or repair the part for around $2. Prevent the part from failing again be refurbishing your blower motor. Here are two videos showing you how to accomplish this...

01 grand.prix ac fan switch only works on high. has a duel temp controller when you turn fan off the only way fan comes back on is to move the temp controller levers

Hi!!
When the Blower Motor Resistor (controls blower speeds) goes bad, the blower motor works only on HIGH SPEED. REPLACE IT.
BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR Removal & Installation
  • Disconnect negative battery cable.
  • Remove right lower instrument panel insulator panel.
  • Disconnect blower resistor connector located behind right side of dash.
  • Remove blower resistor screws and blower resistor.
To install, reverse removal procedure
Good Luck!! A HELPFUL - 4 THUMBS - rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa!!

Heater blower stopped working?

Hello,
You may want to try your fan on all speeds. If it will work on high, you have a bad resistor for the fan motor. ( high speed doesn't go through the resistor ).
If it doesn't work on any speed, I would check the following;
1. Make sure the fuse isn't blown for the fan blower motor.
2. Check, or have checked the wires between the fan control switch and the fan blower motor.
3. Have the fan control switch checked.
4. Have the fan blower motor checked.

I hope this helps you.

HAD MY UNIT SERVICED TWO WEEKS AGO. TODAY THE FAN ISS NOT BLOWING AT ALL, WHAT SHOULD I TRY BEFORE CALLING A REPAIR MAN

ok are you talking about the fan inside the truck or under the hood if inside the car check the fuse first if ok then use a test light and see if the fan is getting power you can access fan by pulling off passenger kick plate and the fan wires all right there should 12v constant also check your fan blower restistor pack it is right there with motor when they go out do same thing they are mounted on the motor its a sensor with two bolts going into it and no wires coming off of it hope this helps

Heat/ac blower motor works on high. intermittent on other speeds.

Check the blower resistor pack - usually located in the heater air ducting in the blower fan airflow. Check for loose connections and open circuit resistors on the unit.
If speed 4 works always, its unlikely to be the blower motor ground connection.

Heater fan only works on fastest speed

Your blower motor resistor has gone bad, it should be located next to your blower motor in the car, held in place with a couple of screws, remove it and replace it. The resistor is responsible for making the blower motor run at slower speeds than high or (4). Let me know if this helps.

When the air it on it does not get cold and when the heat is on it does not get hot

This is actualy strange because the heat and a/c are different systems. If someone came to me with this problem first I would ask did it happen at the same time ? Then I would check the Blower Motor & Blower Motor Restistor. Do you feel the air coming out of the dash ? can you still turn it up and down ? If not both a/c and heat are working you just need to replace the blower motor and blower motor resistor. always replace both at the same time each can make each go bad you dont want to put a new blower in there and have the old resistor ruin it in a day.
