Question about 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier
I suspect your trying to check transmission fluid?
If so your going to love this.
The car needs to be jacked up so that the front of the car and the rear of the car are level. You can then gain access to the transmission level plug located on the passenger side of the transmission under the car, right behind the oil pan. It will be a small brass colored plug.
With the engine up to normal operating temperature and running remove this plug. Have a drain pan under it to catch any fluid that may come out. If fluid comes out it is full. If no fluid comes out you'll need to add some. DO NOT SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE WITH THE PLUG REMOVED!
The fill plug is located on the top of the transmission. If you look down on the drivers side of the engine where it meets the transmission you will see a red cap. Unscrew that cap and using an appropriate funnel add fluid until it runs out the level plug hole. Once it starts to run out it is full and the level plug can be reinstalled, the engine shut off and the car lowered.
It is very important for the car to be level and for the engine to be running the whole time to level plug is removed.
