Question about 1996 Dodge Dakota

I want to change the s-belt on my 96 Dodge Dakota. I already know about the tensioner pully. Do I have to take the radiator and fan off, or can I just put the belt on using the tensioner

NO. All you need to do is release the tension on the belt and it will come off without having to pull anything off. Make sure you notate how the belt is routed before you take it off to make putting the new one on a little easier.

You do not have to remove anything except the old belt.It routes around the fan pulley.Should be a diagram under the hood on the hood or near the core support.Hope this helps you out,

I need a belt routing digram for a1992 dodge dakota 3.9 engine

Look under your hood. on the hood or sub frame that holds your headlight assembly/grill, you'll see a diagram on how your v belt is put on. If not check a repair manual (haynes or chilton) the first two chapters can tell you how the belt is routed through the pully's. Also take time to find the V-belt Tension pully. using a 3/8's socket wrench (the wrench without a socket), put the square end of the wrench into the opening and pull up or push down and your belt should slip right on.

Water pump how much do you have to take off to remove and install new one.

Normaly the radiator the belt and the fan any hoses ...then the water pump. Sometimes you dont have to remove the radiator. But if you need to get a pully puller in there you might not have enough room.

How do you replace a timing belt on a 96 kia sportage?

its a long process. if automatic with ac you must leave radiator on. whick doesnt give you any room but take off the fan, fan shroud and big pully. remove thermostat, must replace termostat housing gasket! 1.99 at oreillys. remove timing cover and finally the timing belt. you must time it just right or will not start. left cam is INTAKE so the I should be straight up at 12 o'clock you;ll see a notch for each cam, right side is EXHAUST so the E should be straight up at 12 o'clock. move tensioner pully to the left and lock by tightening the bolt. as you hold the intkae cam in place have someone else hold the exhaust cam in place both with right size wrenchs. put timing belt on correctly and keep tension on belt. losen tensioner pully and loc it back in place. put every thing on and start.

Looking for some assistance on replacing my serpentine belt on a 2003 dodge dakota (v6/3.7L). I'm not sure where the tension pulley is (left front facing engine?) and want to make sure I ''tighten'' the...

The tensioner pully is the one that's mounted to an arm, with a square hole to put the 3/8" drive of your ratchet into. Consult the diagram by the hood latch to identify the other pullies, i.e. power steering, a/c, alternator, that should narrow it down for you. It's basically the only pulley not directly attached to a component.

Raise up on the tensioner to remove the belt. there shouold be a routing schematic on the fan shroud. If not draw one before removing the old belt. That's pretty much all you have to do....or at least thats the easiest way for me
