If the shifter is on the floor there is a little piece of plastic covering a small hole to disengage the emergency shift lock solenoid.Take a small object like a paper clip and press down in that hole and this should unlock it for now.THe main cause of this is a faulty shift interlock control solenoid.good luck and i hope this helps

Check your brake light fuse, check to see if your brake lights come on when you step on the brake pedal. No brake lights? replace brake light switch. check your owners manual to show you how to manually disconnect the shifter interlock, usually by removing a plastic panel near the shifter and poking a pen in the hole.

Check the instrument panel fuse block for a fuse called either the park lock fuse or the BTSI park lock fuse and see if it is blown.

Also check to make sure the brake lights work.

SOURCE: Battery dead, boosts do not

Your car will not release into park unless you have charge in the battery. There is an electric solenoidwhich keeps it from releasing. It's used for safety reasons in case your kids are playing in the car.

Shift lever stuck in park

The park is locked out with a pin that is pulled back by small electric solenoid plunger, the solenoid is powered when you step on the brake pedal, so it the brake lights are not working then the shifter will not release from park. The idea here is of course to have the brakes applied before the car is put in "Drive", it is called the Park lock safety feature by Ford. You should be able to override this by turning the ignition switch to just short of the on/run position (between off and run) while jiggling the shift lever.

does it have a shift lock if so its normally dissengaged by pressing the brake pedal there should also be a release button on the shift lever or located under the consul there should be an acess hole if the switch on the brake pedal is faulty it will not allow u to shift out of park the shift lever can be the cause of the key not comming out if park possition is not selected properly

Most common is a failing brake light switch. If the brake lights don't come on when the shifter is stuck and they work when the shifter works you need a new switch.
