What type of sensor do you mean? I don't think it has sensors like a more modern transmission as far as the VSS, for instance, because it has a speedometer cable in that place and bands.

I think the 1992 Chrysler New Yorker had an older style transmission that didn't use a computer sensor as far as I read, anyway.

Does that answer the question?

SOURCE: I have a 1992 chrysler new yorker, it will not go

OK, if the engine is overspeeding at 40 mph and won't rev any higher, then I would say the transmission is not up shifting to higher gears. A solenoid blocked up or defective may be the problem. I would then have the transmission replaced or rebuilt to solve the problem.

If the engine is not overspeeding, then I would look at the engine itself not providing enough horse power for the transmission to up shift in the first place.

Good luck on this repair.

SOURCE: 1992 Chrysler New Yorker transmission won't shift out of first gear.

Hi,

i had the same problem like drushlow in my Eagle Vision, wich has the same engine and transmission. Your transmission is going into safety mode wich allows you to go on but just in 2nd gear. The Problem in my car was the EGR Valve. In other words the engine had a problem and the transmission swiched into safety mode to make sure the engine don´t get any more damage. So i´m very sure your transmission is still OK but there is only one way to find out what is wrong. Drive to a chrysler dealer and read the errror code (that only cost you 20 to 40 dollars). After that you know what´s wrong and can decide what you wanna do.

I'm fairly sure a 1993 would use a speed sensor instead of a cable.
Either way, they plug into the side of the transmission.

I have a chrysler new yorker 92 . i was driving and the gass petal wouldnt accelerate the trans. Then it will kick back in after pressing a couple times. Friend said to try trans. filter first.

Your transmission is slipping and most likely failing. You could try getting fluid and filter changed. But these cars are notorious for the trannys going out. Sorry. Im sure mine will bite the dust soon.

Need to find the backup light switch on a 1990 new yorker

There are 2 switches on the transmission, one is a nuetral safety switch and the other for the reverse lights, but there may possibly be a relay involved with the reverse lights also.
