Try some staring fluid or a few tablespoons of fuel in the intake manifold at the throttle body.
If the car starts and runs for a few seconds, the fuel delivery has a problem ( like a fuel pump or clogged fuel injector).

If it doesn't start up immediately, then it's a possible spark delivery problem.

That should narrow things down a bit.

If you have moved the car a few feet and turned the engine off the cold start is the problem, pull the fuel pump fuse (in the boot "yellow") and turn over until the engine fires. You need a friend with you to push the fuse back in when engine runs. Its one of those things you only do once and never foget.

A car of this year could have the nikasil engine liner problem, i hope it is not as the only cure is a replacement engine.Get a compression test done or remove plugs and coils drop oil in the chambers if it sparks up, theres your problem, the engine has not got enough compression so it wont start.

My 1991 Ford F350 w/5.8, 351Windsor driven for an unspecified amount of time (days, weeks, months?) with a bad alternator. After replaceing it, next was solenoid & starter. Now, not firing. Good coil…

if the alternator was not charging , there would have been an indicator light on in the dash or the volt gauge would have been showing a negative or under 11 volts
second point against a failed alternator for a period of time is that it would have been running off the battery and that results in missing, not starting and engine stopping , dying when being driven as the battery ran down so maybe 2 days at the most with a bad alternator
no spark is-- immobilizer , cam/crank position sensor and ignition control module , no injector or fuel pressure
try reading the fault codes to get closer to the problem

Life expectancy of a ring gear

Make sure all electrical connections are clean and tight. If the ring gear is damaged, it will chew up the starter drive pretty fast. 2 starters in 12 months isn't good. With the starter removed use a torch to have a look in the opening at the ring gear condition. If the teeth are all chewed up and damaged, it will be the reason for damaging the starter. If they are OK, its possible that the replacement starter wasn't fitted back in properly or tight enough..
If all is good , check the battery as well. If your battery is on its way out, there wont be enough power to crank the engine and the starter wont operate properly.

Engine fails to start

What makes you think the battery is charged sufficiently? My guess is that your battery doesn't have enough power to crank the engine (just because all the lights come on doesn't mean the battery is good enough to crank the engine). Try jumpstarting the car, or charging the battery. If your car starts, then your battery is getting old, it's time to replace it.

Toyota Prado 97 (petrol). Can jump start but has loss of power when put in gear or lights, whipers or anything else turned on. Battery indicator says ok.

It sounds like you might have a bad alternator. You can't always trust you gauges. Jump it off again and check the voltage at the battery. You should have 14 volts. If it is less then that you have a bad alternator. Good luck.

possible faulty starter.
when the car will not start, have someone hold the key to the start position and give the starter a tap
if it fires you have a defective starter.

SOUNDS LIKE YOU NEED BOTH THE ALTERNATOR AND THE STARTER TESTED.THE CAR SHOULD STAY RUNNING OFF THE ALTERNATOR ONCE BOOSTED,IT SHOULD START OFF THE BATTERY WHEN FULLY CHARGED.

Truck doesn't start, knocking or rapping sound

Ok i'm a shade tree mech. so please be careful with what I'm telling you. like the what was said check battery. if ok stater will turn go to you air filter and spray w-d 40 in it I'm not a mech. so don't do this too many times. this is like pour ing gas in your carb. if it start you have a fuel prob. if it won't even turn over you have a starter prob.which taping with a hammer ( I SAID TAPPING) may loosen thing up. if stater ok still grind it may be you fly wheel has bad teeth which is a pain but can be replaced in a day if you kindof know what you doing but frist take off the inspection cover and look at the teeth which is located on eng. beside the starter. but I guess if you park it and it was ok then this is not going to be your prob. hope i helped
