How much is the torque on an oil plug for a 2010 outback?

  • You don't really have to use a torque wrench on an oil plug.
  • Make sure the gasket on the oil plug is not overly worn, dried, cracked etc.
  • Make sure the gasket is on the plug.
  • Provided the plug goes into the pan fairly easy just snug it up. Not to tight or it will strip.
  • When you are done wipe the plug with a rag and just inspect the plug fo leaks (oil filter too) after you turn the car on.
  • If it does not leak your good to go.

  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

Regards, Tony

You will need what is called an oil vacuum pump. They are not very expensive (around $20-$30 US) & are usually available at your local auto parts outlet. They are basically an oversized syringe with a flexible rubber or plastic tube instead of a solid steel probe & will usually hold about a metric litre. Hand operated. Use this to withdraw as much oil as you can from the Diff, it is impossible to get every drop. You will also find it handy to refill the diff, but flush it out first with kero or diesel. I also recommend draining all you can in one step, then waiting 1/2 an hour to 45mins and doing it again to get the last bit.

TORQUE SPECIFICATION FOR A FORD FIVE HUNDRED OIL PAN GASKET?

Almost all oil pan bolts should not be torqued more than 30 ft lbs. This is to ensure that you don't stretch the gasket and cause leaks. There is no particular torque sequence.
