I know that fusible links on GM cars come directly off of the starter positive terminal. They can be identified by looking for a cylindrical (3/4" long by 1/2" in diameter) barrel of plastic on a colored piece of wire. If the technician pulls on a fusible link which is about 8" long (replacement), then the wire insulation will stretch by about 1" to 3" indicating the wire inside has broken.
I looked up fusible link on the 1999 Dodge Ram and came up with this information which is a little bit different as far as form factor:

Fusible Links Removal & Installation All Engines To Remove:
NOTE: If a generator cartridge fuse fails, be certain to inspect and test the vehicle charging system before replacing the cartridge fuse and returning the vehicle to service.

  1. Before servicing the vehicle refer to the precautions at the beginning of this section.
  2. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • The negative battery cable
    • The cover from the Power Distribution Center (PDC)
    • The two screws securing the generator cartridge fuse to the two B(+) terminal stud bus bars within the PDC
    • The generator cartridge fuse from the PDC
To Install:
  1. Install or connect the following:
    • The generator cartridge fuse onto the two B(+) terminal stud bus bars within the PDC
    • The two screws securing the generator cartridge fuse to the two B(+) terminal stud bus bars within the PDC
    • Tighten the screws
      1. Torque to: 30 in. lbs. (3.4 Nm)
NOTE: Ensure that both screws are tightened to the proper torque values.
    • The cover onto the PDC
    • The negative battery cable

Have a 1999 Dodge Avenger V6. Keeps blowing Engine Fuse under hood

Fusible link 3 feeds the PCM. the ASD relay, and fuel pump relay. Assuming it has A/T, that fusible link also feeds the starter relay, the EATX-ECM, and the EATX relay. A short in any of those elements could be causing the trouble.

What is the fusible link from starter on 1998 dodge ram 1500 5.9L "responsible" for?

A fusible link is basically a fuse built into a wire. It is designed to burn up whenever too high of an amp load is placed onto that circuit. If you have burned one up you will need to find out where the amp load came from and then replace with another fusible link of the same rating.

Had a wire arc out on 1993 Dodge ram D150 and truck stalled no there's nothing when u turn the key over

Have to check all fuses and fusible links, fuses in fuse box and fusible links are in the line. They look like the wiring except when they blow they are very soft like only the outer cover of the wire is there. Hope that makes sense to you. Good luck.

2014 dodge ram 3500 headlights work but nothing else.. no horn no start no crank

I believe most vehicles have fusible links which supply the fuse block, but that the headlamps are supplied through a different link. Kind of surprising if a 2014 truck has blown a fusible link though, so more likely there is some security system cutting power. Under warranty?

Possibly fusible link in the positive battery cable. However if the fusible link blew you wouldn't have any power at all. Check for codes in the abs system. Most likely shorted out a relay.

The AC fuse blows when I turn on the AC switch. It does not blow when the compressor is un-plugged. There seems to be a fusible link or something in the pigtail connector of the compressor that has...

I would investigate the fusible link to see if it is intact. Sounds like a problem with the A/C clutch or compressor drawing too much current, which blows the fuse. It would be a open, not a short, unless the wire has power and is touching ground.

1999 3.2 Dodge Intrepid. Has had motor changed and can't read computer. Car dies at exit ramps and stoplights/signs.

It sounds like there is a fusible link blown under the hood. The link vary in location on chrysler vehicles but they should be near the computer.
