The fuel pumps don't like to be run out of gas. They use the gas in the tank to stay cool. I would bet you ruined the fuel pump especially if you have never changed the fuel filter.

Try this. With the car in park have somebody crank the car over while you smack the fuel tank with a rubber mallet about dead center and a little to the rear of the tank. If the car starts you will be replacing the fuel pump. Don't wait for it to stop running again. This is a do it yourself trick to see if the fuel pump is bad and is not a repair!

Ran out of gas in 2014 Taurus SeL. Added gas (plenty). Now Cranks but will not start. No problems, running well before this (replaced battery a few months back.) any quick tips/suggestions?

When you run very low on gas or even worse run it empty it overheats and can destroy the tiny electric fuel pump inside the gas tank, the pump requires fuel around it for cooling and for lubrication purposes. So I strongly suggest you check the fuel pressure at the pressure test port in the fuel injection supply rail that is over the injectors, I bet there is no pressure.

Ran my 02 envoy out of gas, after refueling started right up,went 3 blocks, died again just as before and now won't start at all. It turns over but no fire. We replaced cam and crank sensors-no go.help

Is there any fuel? Running a fuel injected vehicle out of gas is not good for the fuel pump as the gas is what is used to lubricate and cool the pump. If fuel pressure ok? Try banging on the tank with your fist while someone cranks the engine. If it starts or trys to start, suspect a bad fuel pump

Take it to the dealer if you can't afford it buy parts then you to worry about labor. No second guessing your car is your life that brings you to work and everywhere you treat it like dirt it's going treat you like dirt.

2002 Pontiac Firebird acts like it ran out of gas and now won't even start. Could it be fuel pump or something else. Service engine soon light also comes on occasionally due to emmisions sensor fr

with the key on engine off listen to fuel pump,if you can not hear the pump winning ,the pump is bad

if you can hear it,it might be working but create enough pressure
you can rent a fuel pressure gauge from auto store and check the fuel pressure

2002 Ford Explorer ran out of gas put gas in and won't restart. replaced fuel pump and fuel filter still won't start. Cranks but won't start

Most Fords have a fuel reset button. When you ran out of gas you tripped the circuit. Most of the time the button will be on the passenger side by the kick panel. The exact location should be in your owners manual or your local library or auto parts store will have a copy of one for your specific vehicle.

Ran out of gas-truck won't start-replaced fuel

you probably have air in the lines, if you have a carb, spray some quick start into the carb and turn it over, if it starts and then dies when the starting fluid has run out, you probably need a fuel pump, since the running of the car should have blown out any air that was in the line, If your car is fuel injected, loosen the bolt cap at the end of the injector line that supplies the fuel,, and tap the key once,, ( don't start it,, ) just turn the key on and off 3 or 4 times, this should blow fuel out of that loose bolt head, if it does your getting fuel, if not, back to the fuel pump, also you can check this link, http://www.aa1car.com/library/us1296.htm
