Do not pry off main panel! It has built on tabs to hold it in place.
First ease the angular top front panel, switch rest and handle cover.
flat screw driver used carefully works fine. Unplug the switch wire connectors [3]. remove the 2 small screws. door light can be remove and disconnected as well. The door speaker plug can be done after with the main panel part way off.
Lift up on the main panel to remove. Wedge or tape the window glass to before removing the power window assembly.
remove 5 bolts on the actuator assem. Loosen the 2 bolts on the glass clamps.

removing the panel is a breeze if the door is open and can be done closed as well. Closed happens when the latch actuator fails. note the angular front post panel just has to be pried loose. Pry the switch panel up from the back edge.reach in and manually lift the latch lock rod.
If you are replacing the window actuator buy "Dorman" they have a Lifetime warranty.
I have replace both left and right window actuators on my 2000 Silverado many times. 9 in total.
They just keep failing. The cable system does Not Function Great.

There is a special tool you can buy to help remove the quick fasteners. If you don’t want to purchase the tool you can use a flat blade screw driver. Be careful, they break easy.

Manual Door Window Regulator
(see Figure 3)
  1. Raise the glass to the full up position and tape it to the door frame with fabric tape.
  2. Remove the door trim panel.
  3. Remove the regulator to door panel attaching bolts.
  4. Slide the regulator assembly rearward, disengaging the rollers from the sash panel.
A notch is provided in the sash panel to allow disengagement of the forward roller on the window regulator.
  1. Collapse and remove the regulator assembly through the access hole in the door.
To install:
  1. Prior to installation, lubricate the motor drive gear and regulator sector teeth.
  2. Collapse the regulator and insert it through the access hole in the door.
  3. Unfold the regulator and engage the forward roller to the sash cannel at sash channel notch.
  4. Slide the regulator rearward to engage the rear roller to the sash channel. Also engage the lower roller to the regulator rail.

How to install driver side window regulator

1. Take door panel off by prying off with srew driver moldings for outside mirror, around lock, and door handle, then pry up counsel for power locks, windows, and mirror adjustment and disconnect plugs. Remove three screws located behind arm rest handle, inside where counsel was removed, and bottom middle of door panel. Lift panel and pull slighlty towards you. Disconnect courtesy light, and wire to speaker. This may sound like alot but it goes pretty fast. 2. Peel away plastic and loosen window glass clamps (explaination from above, which are accessable when window is in up position). 3. Disconnect wire to motor, and remove 6 bolts holding guide rails and motor. Lift rails slightly to release from little hangers, which come in handy when putting new one in. 4. You should be able to remove entire window regulator at this point. Surprisingly the window stayed in up position when regulator was removed. 5. Before installing new regulator loosen window glass clamps. Install new by first setting guides in place by using the little hangers. Bolt guides and motor, temporarily connect power window switch and carefully raise window regulator until clamps are resting in place under window glass, tighten clamps. Test before putting panel back on.

3. pry door handle plug by using small flat bladed tool
4.remove door trim handle mounting screws
5. remove door trim panel from retainers.Start at rear bottom corner and pry outward.

KD does make a tool that will properly pry the door panel away from reainers. KD 3705 You might get by with a screwdriver.
One other thing you may need to have the window down to get the panel to come off. You will have to lift up on it once it is loose from the fastners.

Replace glass, drivers door on 1997 GMC 1/2 ton Truck ,2wd, Power windows

The door panel is held onto the door with clips but first you need to remove the screws from the grab handle on the door panel. then pop the bezel off around the inside door handle. very carefully!!! then using a clip tool pry off the peice that covers the rear view mirror nuts and pry gently all the way around the door panel until its loose then lift it up slightly to unseat the window channel strip off the door, then unhook your wires. As for the window roll it up, tape it to the door then line up the 2 10mm bolts that clamp it to the regulator with the provided holes in the door, loosen 'em up roll the regulator down and remove the window. Have fun guys!!!
