Rebuilt head put oon..missing something....fuel pours out when started

My son bought a rebuilt head for a 98 Mazda Protege, 1.5 L engine. He has it put back together but has one problem..fuel pours out when started up. He has the manual, diagrams, tools, and a lot of experience working on cars, but this is so elusive that he needs help.

He works out of town, but this thing is on his mind to the detriment of work! C an you help?

My 98 mazda prodege wont start only cranks over

Well you need spark at the right time, fuel, and normal compression to make the engine run.
So you would need to check for spark and fuel, then compression if necessary.

Missing bad, won't take gas. fuel pump or fuel filter?

could be eather both or none of the above the info you supplied is very scarce if it is missing you could have more serious problems try throtling the engine up to a steady level but be sure not ot over rev the engine see if the missing gets worse or if the engine begins to stall these could be signs of a faulty pump or dirty filter but if they dont then it is probably something else

Check engine light intermittently flashing, car jerking.

Could be fuel or electrical related. Since you may not know the history, this may take a while.
Any amount of smoke from exhaust? White, Blue, Black?
Start with most obvious and inexpensive:
1. Fuel filer clogged (replace fuel filter).
2. Could be the ECM (Electronic Control Module). It controls the ignition spark timing.
A few other things... consider other expert solutions...

My engine is knocking and missing

I think you have run the oil down low or have had a blockage in the oil gallery to the crankshaft.Resulting in the bottom end bearings wearing out.Drain the oil and check for metal particals.good luck!!

2002 Mazda Protege acceleration problem

I had the same problem and found that the air admission tube was badly cracked.

Since this let air enter the engine downstream of the mass airflow sensor it is not measured so the engine ECU don't send the proper amount of fuel to provide the right air/fuel mixture. At higher RPM, the vacuum in the tube is enough to close the crack and hide the problem.

I temporarly repaired it with duct tape until I get the part.
