Depending on what other components are in your way,it should not be difficult. The way cars are made now,it could be 3 hours.First buy the gasket.Drain the oil. There is a drain bolt on the bottom of the pan. When putting back on it does not need to be cranked overly tight.Tighten it until it stops, then give it a slight extra turn. Also, remove the oil filter and make sure to take off the old rubber gasket/seal.Oil filters should always be hand tightened.Oil filter band type tighteners are completely unnecessary and a waste of money.Hand tighten, then give it just a little more. That is what the gasket is for. When you drop the pan, there will probably still be a little extra oil in it so drain it properly.Almost any garage will accept used oil at no cost to be recycled. The gasket holes should line up with the bolt holes on the pan.Put several bolts in loosely, maybe halfway until they are all in.Tighten them until they are not quite all the way down, yet close. When you do the final tighten, start on one side with 1 bolt.Move criss cross and do the opposite end.Go to the middle and tighten those 2.Then,starting from the original, keep criss crossing. This is to ensure uniform tightening and prevent wrinkles in the gasket.Any questions/problems,just reply here and i will get an auto link to your post and will reply ASAP.Good luck! greg

How hard is it to change a oil pan gasket

It's not hard ,but you need to know if there might be any obstruction that might get in the way preventing you dropping the pan down just make sure all the oil is drained before you start ,and make sure you clean both surfaces thoroughly before putting gasket on ,and you must tighten all bolts or screws evenly or it will leak .

How hard is it to change a oil pan gasket on a 2004 chrystler sebring

Changing the gasket is not hard at all. More tedious and dirty than anything. All you need to do is take off the 6-8 bolts that are holding the pan up. I would drain the oil first, so that you do not have such a mess. Once drained, take the pan off, and make sure you remove all of the old gasket with a flat tip screwdriver. Place the new one on, and bolt the pan back on.

I need to replace the oil pan in a 2001 dodge neon. Is this a DYI job??

Do you need to replace the oil pan it self or just the oil pan seal? This can been a DYI job, depending on your experience working with cars. You will need a your basic tools. (Jack Stands, Jack, Oil Container, wrenches and sockets, new oil and filter.) The first thing you will need to do is drain the oil. This is a good time to change your oil since you will be taking the oil pan completely off.
Steps to removing oil pan
1) Set car on jack stands or ramps in order to work under the car. (Be Safe, Be Smart!)
2) You will need a wrench or socket to remove oil drain plug and drain the oil out of the car
-This is a good time to change your oil, so replace oil filter as well.
3) Once the oil is drained you can take of the oil pan off. Most oil pans are just bolted. Not to hard to take of.
4) Once off this is a good time to clean the oil pan if your just replacing the gasket. Do not use lubricant cleaners like wd-40. Brake cleaner has worked for me, you can also ask your local auto shop or autozone for a good cleaner.
5)Replace the oil pan with new gasket making sure there are no tears in gasket and it sits well between the oil pan and engine block. (Make sure there is nothing in the oil pan as well that could cause harm)
6) once you replaced the oil pan its just as simple as putting oil back into your car like you are changing your oil.

To change the oil pan gasket in a 93 Tercel

Stock the car doesn't come with an oil pan gasket but you can order one from rockauto.com you don't have to remove the A/C compressor for any of the jobs you listed. If you want to change the timing belt you need to remove the plastic rock guard under the motor on the passenger side. remove the spark plugs and using the socket turn the engine from the crankshaft clockwise until you are at TDC on #1 cyclinder. (compression stroke) Next remove the upper and lower plastic timing belt covers. The idler pulley is the one with the spring. Loosen the nut and remove the spring then you can remove the timing belt. It really isn't that hard to do. Maybe one afternoon.

2002 Jeep Wrangler appears the rear of the oil pan gasket is leaking. How hard is it to change out and any tips/

It is the oil pan gasket all you have to do is drop the oil pan clean the bottom of the engine block and the surface of the oil pan and install the oil pan again. a very simple process. Make sure that it is not the rear main crank seal that is leaking. If it is the rear main then you will have to remove the tranny to replace the rear main seal.
