Question about 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland

1 Answer

Need to check the transmission fluid pressure sensor in the tranny. Can it be repaired or does it need to be replaced? The tranny will delay going into R or D when cold. It also sticks in gear "4" when cold. Recently changed fluid and filter and may have bumped sensor when replacing the tranny pan. Are they that sensitive?

Sounds like a fluid flow problem. probably need to change the fluid and filter in the transmission. If the sensor is bad it will have to be replaced. Hopefully it is that simple. If its sticking in gear and delaying when its cold I would prepare yourself for a transmission rebuild. It could be a pre-cursor to a bigger problem.

Very low pressure from transmission 92 gmc

sounds as if the tranny needs an inspection as you've checked fluid level ,might just be a sensor but if high mileage i'd say may need an overhaul , take to a tranny specialist who will give a proper diagnosis

2002 mirage tranny delays shifting does not slip.Tranny fluid is full.Has 150,000 miles on it.

Hi there,

Mitsi transmissions are programmed for smooth gear changing and a brief delay is normal.

However, if the duration of the delay exceeds 2secs, then there is an internal problem with the transmission.

You need to run the diagnostics on your vehicle (the PCM controls both Engine + Trans electronics) which will determine where the fault is ocurring.

Most likely causes can be:

- Abnormal underdrive clutch pressure
- Malfunction of the underdrive solenoid valve
- Malfunction of the inderdrive clutch
- Malfunction of the valve body (which houses all the valves & soleniods etc)
- Malfunction of the idle position switch

Your Mitsubishi dealership can use their MUT-II scan tool query the solenoid.

Fluid - condition of fluid is critical for acceptable operation:

1) ONLY USE MITSUBISHI ATF FLUID - never use other brands.
2) Check fluid colour - must be nice RED colour. If black, then fluid is bad - change fluid.
3) If fluid smells burnt, then fluid should be replaced (burning smell can be a sign of internal damage).
4) Fluid level should be checked while trans is warm & idling in Park.
5) NEVER overfill the trans - overfilling can cause the excess fluid to foam, causing shifting problems.
6) Although manufacturer recommends changing fluid every 70,000 miles, it is always safer to maintain clean fluid by changing every 30,000 miles.

Cheers,

Narrowing it down.

The torque converter slips more than normal only if the oil level is really low - check that. Otherwise the problem is clearly with the pressure plates - and those can be replaced, you don't need to replace the entire tranny for that.

1996 Ford Winstar w/ recent tranny flush

well, i used to work at a transmission repair shop, and it is true that you're supposed to overfill these transmissions, but only by ONE quart. 4 quarts would certainly cause a big problem if thats what they did. the speedometer issue however is related only to the vehicle speed sensor which is a common problem on this transmission. i would STRONGLY recommend you bring it to a transmission repair shop (obviously a different one than before) becuase this sensor gets corroded and can be just awful to replace.

also, with your speed sensor not working, your transmission will go into limp mode and will have at most two gears. this is normal. as for the fluid leakage, it could be related to them over-overfilling the transmission and the fluid coming out the vent.

Burned clutches I know you said they just seviced it but i would take it back if its still under warranty. Just by what you said the tranny is slipping and the burnt smell is an indication of burnt clutches. The rev up is a sure sign its slipping.

Don't flush the transmission. Remove the transmission oil pan and replace the governor pressure solenoid and switch. Reinstall the pan and add fluid. Disconnect the battery for a few minutes and reconnect to clear any codes and road test.

Automatic tranny will not shift out of low gear. check engine on

you will need to replace your transmission, this is a very common problem with the ultradrive transmissions.

if you have added any fluid to the transmission chances are it was the wrong type.
