Question about 1995 Suzuki Sidekick

2 Answers

I have a 1995 Suzuki Sidekick. It was driven daily. The radiator was over heating so bad it had to be replaced. After that, it stopped running. When turing the key, it tries its hardest to start. The oil was completly empty (maybe because it sat for 2 years?) Any suggestions?

Pretty likely the engine is partially seized. No oil will cause the engine bearings to gall and damage the crankshaft. The oil may not be gone but may have been baked by the overheat.(I've seen oil you could cut into squares like a brownie).
If you want to try and free it up, you could fill the crankcase with marvel oil and squirt a little in each spark plug hole. Then try turning the engine, first by hand, then with the starter.
Even if you get it to start though it's doubtful that it will run well.
After an overheat of any magnitude, transmission fluid (automatic) can also burn (both cooled by the radiator) so if you decide to do an engine swap, keep in mind that the transmission may also now have problems.
The most I'd invest in that is a gallon of marvel oil. More than that maybe a waste of $.
Good luck though!!!

Do a compression test, sounds like you cooked it. Engines do not like running with no oil.

you need to have the Engine Coolant Temperature switch checked, since the computer relies solely on sensors, the ect tells the computer how cold or hot it is so the computer will make it a rich or lean mixture to start the engine,if it tells the computer that it is 75 degrees the computer will lean the mixture like starting a car in the winter without a choke.

Where to start. In the winter will a leather soft top be worse or the same for heating on my suzuki sidekick '95.

Hi:
If you are asking if a soft top is worse to heat than the hard top, the answer is yes, but not that bad. They can be noisier and draftier too, and are only really fun in the summer, when they are down!
