Well the simple answer is no, your not hurting it. I would however be doing a tranny service every 6 months or so, to make sure the fluid is always fresh... The tranny will settle in and will take its time sometimes, but as long as it isnt slipping its all fine... If a shiftkit is available for your tranny it might be a thought... Just keep the fluid level always topped up and so your services about twice as often as needed...

I would suggest taking your time between reveres and drive, pausing in neutral for a sec. you may also wont to have your transmission filter and fluid changed sooner then called for ,as preventive maintenance hope this answers your question if not please let us know Thank you.

My 1993 chevy van will not shift out of park

is it parked in a steep hill, if so,try to releave some pressure off it,and try to shift it,if not, block wheels so van wont move, inspect shift linkage,if ok,undo linkage from tranny, try shifter invan if it moves ok,if not, inspectshifter and linkange,if its ok,try moving shifter arm at tranny,be careful!if it doesnt move, youll have to take oil pan off tranny and inspect park gear lock.

Transmission pops out of gear

Sounds like your tranny guy just did a bad job, the tranny needs to come out and be inspected internally. I bet the guy has a lock pin in wrong, or not at all.
