Hello Mr Wong , I 'am thinking of buying this car , I have not seen it yet. I'am told the engine is good.
It has 190000 kilometers. The seller seems to think it is the transmission, I will get more information on the car and let you know. I believe you are right. will get back soon Thanks. ED.

Hi!!
I've found a few posts mentioning the same problem with the transmission, I've checked for recalls and there is none. There is a problem with the transmission, the front bearings and the brake rotors, they tend to warp, if you are looking to buy this vehicle, check both wheel bearings, rotors, front and back for warpage and subtract the price of a new transmission. There are newer Impalas also having transmission problems after just 14 months of use.
Does this sound familiar: The transmission does not engage immediately after cornering or during hard acceleration. When it does you can hear and feel a loud clunking noise coming from the powertrain. Often times this also causes the tires to "chirp". The above mentioned transmission problem has started when the car reached about 30,000 miles and 1 year old, until finally the wheels locked up.
Good Luck! Thank you for using FixYa

OK, if the front wheels lock up, the transmission is not the likely cause. It may have more to do with the brakes or the hub assemblies.

Are you able to push or move the vehicle when in neutral?

May need to jack up the front and try to spin the wheels when the car is not running.

Spinning the wheels will tell you if the brakes are locked up or bearings locked up at the rotors.

If one spins the front wheel one way, the other side should spin the opposite way even in park.

Tell me if this helps you understand what may be wrong with the vehicle in question.

By the way, what happened to the engine?

Hi! It's not the transmission, the problem will surely be on the brake pistons. As a first course of action have it bleed out and look if the brakes will unlock. Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!

Intermittent noise from front driver wheel hub?

It could be a bad wheel bearing or possibly a hanging caliper. Check the caliper and wheel bearing out. If the brake pads are wearing out at an angle , its a good indicator its the brake caliper. Also check out all tie rods, connectors , ball joints, engine and transmission mounts. And also most importantly investigate the CV axle if equipped

How to replace pressure control solenoid on transmission of 02 impala base model

I suspect that it is due for a rebuild & that is the $2000.00

A lot of work to change the solenoid & you know the transaxle
is 10 years old.

I would opt for a GM Reman Certa vs: rebuilding yours or
doing the solenoid.
