If you don't often use the parking brake iy could be rust and crud inside the cable sleves.
If you a regular parking brake user, then it might be a failure in the mechanisum associated with the brake cable and release handle.

I have a 99 grand am .the battery is dead i want to load on a trailer.i cant get it out of park?

Get the battery charged up.
If the brake lites won't work, doubt you can shift it. You have brake shift interlock. Some makes and models have a bypass button for that, close to the shifter. I don't know if your vehicle has this or not? Check out your owners manual, if you don't have one, check out, www.my.gm.com
Type in year--make--model.
Torque lock is another possible problem if park position has a load on it.

It wont come out of park

It sounds like your break pedal switch/sensor is not engaging all the way in or it could be your linkage. Depends on what your vehicle is. I know on the 99 00 jimmy you have to have it running

My 1999 GMC Jimmy will not release the shifter. I cannot get it out of park! Is there a sensor in the brakes that can affect this??

Not typically. Honestly, it usually means there is a problem with your transmission and you're looking at repair or replacement depending on how bad the damage inside is. 99% of the time it can be repaired, but it's costly and you're looking at probably $400 minimum.

Rear disk rotor wont come off

yep
ok you can put the vehicle back together and drive with the parking brake applied swing the vehicle left to right to wear the rust ridge off works most times
what we (GM DEALER)have is a tool that goes on a slide hammer and hooks into the cooling fins of the rotor
or just keep beating with a hammer till it comes off
be aware you will destory the rotors and the parking brake shoes
sorry i can't be more heip

'99 Ford Escort...won't come out of park...it starts and runs...won't shift

Make sure the brake lights work if not then its a fault with the switch or a fuse. If they are then possible fault with release solenoid at lever, though i would reckononit being brake light switch

Good luck davelee

Can the engine serial number lead to year model identification on a GMC Jimmy?

In one word NO! The number on the block mean very little as far as the year! But GM is one of the better when it comes to swapping parts! Never heard of this before! Sure like to know what parts are not fitting?? Frankster016
