Replaced all parts in distributor ran for 25 miles now will not start power in no spark is shaft to move up & down or should it be tight

How to Reinstall a Distributor if Crankshaft Moved.


Applys to all Distributor Engines.

Follow this easy instruccions if you want to reinstall a distributor on a vehicle where the crankshaft was moved from the position it was when the distributor was removed.

Remove #1 spark plug

Place your finger over the spark plug hole while turning the engine with a wrench on the pulley bolt at the front of the engine.

When you feel compression continue turning the crankshaft slowly until the timing mark on the vibration damper is aligned with the "0" on the engine timing indicator.

Position the disttributor rotor between the number 1 & 8 (for 8 Cil.) 1 & 6 (for 6 Cil.) or 1 & 4 (for 4 Cil.) spark plug terminals on the cap.

Lower Dist. into engine. To set the gear on the bottom of the distribuitor, you may need to turn the rotor a little bit. If the distributor does not drop down flush against the block is because the distributor shaft has not mated the oil pump shaft, if this happens, place a large socket w/braker bar on the crankshaft bolt and turn the engine over in the normal direction of rotation until the two shafts engage properly and the distributor sits flush against block.

With the base of the distributor properly seated, turn dist. housing to align the marks you made in dist. base and engine block. (you did make this marks before removal right? : )

Place the hold down clamp and install the hold down bolt not too tight.
Install dist. cap an reconect electrical plugs, spark plug wires, etc.

Check ignition timing and when set, tighten dist. hold down bolt.

Distributor sensor replaced but car started to shake


If the sensor is in the dist, the dist shaft could be worn and slowly damaging the new sensor.
Could also be a new problem.

Installation of wires
  1. Whenever a high tension wire is removed for any reason from a spark plug, coil or distributor cap, or a new high tension wire is installed, Silicone Dielectric Compound WA-10, D7AZ-19A331-A (ESE-M1C171-A) or equivalent must be applied to boot before it is reconnected. Using a small clean tool, coat entire interior surface of boot with Silicone Dielectric Compound WA-10, D7AZ-19A331-A (ESE-M1C171-A) or equivalent.
  1. Insert each wire on proper terminal of distributor cap. Ensure wires are all the way down over their terminals. The No. 1 terminal is identified on cap. Install wires starting with No. 1 terminal.
  1. Remove wire retaining brackets from old high tension wire set and install them on new set in same relative position. Install wires in brackets on valve rocker arm covers.
  1. Connect wires to proper spark plugs.
  1. Install coil wire.


Installation of distributor
Before installing distributor, visually inspect distributor. Inspect O-ring. It should fit tightly and be free of cuts. The drive gear should be free of nicks, cracks and excessive wear. Rotate distributor drive shaft. It should move freely, without binding.
  1. To install distributor correctly, No. 1 piston must be at Top Dead Center (TDC) of compression stroke. Remove No. 1 cylinder spark plug and rotate engine clockwise until No. 1 piston is on the compression stroke.
  1. With No. 1 piston on compression stroke, align timing pointer with TDC on the crankshaft damper.
  1. Align locating boss on rotor with hole on armature. Fully seat rotor on distributor shaft.
  1. Rotate distributor shaft so blade on rotor is pointing toward mark on distributor base, that was previously made in Step 2 of the Removal procedure.
  1. While installing distributor, continue rotating rotor slightly so leading edge of the vane is centered in vane switch stator assembly.
  1. Rotate distributor in block to align leading edge of vane and vane switch stator assembly. Verify rotor is pointing at No. 1 mark on distributor base. If vane and vane switch stator cannot be aligned by rotating distributor in cylinder block, remove distributor enough to just disengage distributor gear from camshaft gear. Rotate rotor enough to engage distributor gear on another tooth of camshaft gear. Repeat Step 1 if necessary.
  1. Install distributor hold-down clamp and bolt. Tighten bolt, but leave it loose enough to rotate distributor.
  1. Install distributor cap, No. 1 spark plug and ignition wires. Check that ignition wires are securely connected to the cap and spark plugs. Tighten distributor cap hold-down screws to 2.0-2.6 Nm (18-23 lb-in).
  1. Reconnect distributor to wiring harness.
  1. Set initial timing according to procedures found in Section 13A of the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis Manual .
  1. After timing is set, tighten distributor hold-down bolts to 23-34 Nm (17-25 lb-ft).
  1. Recheck initial timing. Adjust if necessary.

How do i install a distributor to a nissan pick up


It is necessary to place the No. 1 cylinder in the firing position to correctly install the distributor. To locate this position, the ignition timing marks on the crankshaft front pulley are used.

Remove the No. 1 cylinder spark plug. Turn the crankshaft until the piston in the No. 1 cylinder is moving up on the compression stroke. This can be determined by placing your thumb over the spark plug hole and feeling the air being forced out of the cylinder. Stop turning the crankshaft when the timing marks indicate TDC or 0.

Oil the distributor housing lightly where the distributor bears on the cylinder block.

Install the distributor so that the rotor, which is mounted on the shaft, points toward the No. 1 spark plug terminal tower position when the cap is installed. Of course you won't be able to see the direction in which the rotor is pointing if the cap is on the distributor. Lay the cap on the top of the distributor and make a mark on the side of the housing just below the No.1 spark plug terminal plug terminal. Make sure that the rotor points toward that mark when you install the distributor. On the VG30i, align the mark on the distributor shaft with the protruding mark on the housing.

When the distributor shaft has reached the bottom of the hole, move the rotor back and forth slightly until the driving lug on the end of the shaft enter the slots cut in the end of the oil pump shaft and the distributor assembly slides down into place.

When the distributor is correctly installed, the breaker points should be in such a position that they are just ready to break contact with each other or a lobe of the reluctor is aligned with the stator contact. This is accomplished by rotating the distributor body after it has been installed in the engine. Once again, line up the marks that you made before the distributor was removed from the engine. On the VG30i, the distributor rotor should be in the 11:25 o'clock position (between 11 and 12 o'clock).
  1. Install the distributor hold-down bolt.
  2. Install the spark plugs.
  3. Install the cap, primary wire, and vacuum line(s).
  4. Install the spark plug leads. Consult the marks made during removal to be sure that the proper lead goes to each plug. Install the high tension wire if it was removed.
  5. Start the engine. Check the timing and adjust it if necessary.

Had sparks from coil, bought new coil same problem, bought new distributor, now car will not even start


By distributor, is that the cap or the whole piece of aluminum- housing with stator assembly/ control module/shaft/rotor/cap, the whole sha-bang.
If it was the "whole" distributor & If it ran before you put the distributor in & you only had sparks then the distributor was installed wrong.
Check for spark at the end of the plug wires. If you have spark then its more likely the distributor is in wrong &/or the firing order is off.

Power steeering started makin a noise & noise gets louder when turning wheel. Fluid is aerated & if top of resivior removed while engine running fluid flys out. Have recently had new belts fitted...


belts were put on too tight or have gotten too loose after they were replaced. the nuts that hold the parts in place may not have been tight enough causing the parts to move , which loosens the belt. maybe the belts were stretched too tight when replaced,....... either will cause squealing...good luck

'91 non turbo capri won't start. It just


Solved most of this myself. Changed ING. module which solved spark problem. The injectors still would not function, help came from JUSTANSWERS by idenifying a relay tucked between the left headlight motor and the coolant recovery canister. Like the IGN. module, this relays not cheap. I found a $5 dollar used replacement from a self-pull wrecking yard from it's sister car, a 1988 mazda 323.

You have the wrong pick up coil. It should have plenty of clearence for the shaft. compare it to the old pick up.
