Air conditioning systems should only be serviced by trained technicians because of the pressures involved and risks of explosion or injury. If you are unsure how to recharge a/c and don't have the proper equipment you should take it to a shop.

SOURCE: Where and how do you refill freon on a VW 2001 Jetta?

if the ac system was functioning under a vacuum (it should be), the can should have gotten cold, is there already pressure in the system before you tried ti fill? you have the correct connection if it had a blue cap. it sounds like a possable restricted oriface tube...the instructions will come with new part, USE CAUTION r-134 system repairs can be very dangerous, be sure to remove and store refrigerant before repair...good luck, marty

You are probably low on Freon. Your symptoms are the way the A/C goes out after running out. A bigger problem is losing the lubricating oil in the A/C system as the compressor can seize if the safety pressure switches fail.

There are several fixes and approaches to each problem. You need to determine if Freon still exists in the unit. You can get by with adding Freon with an additive to fix leaks and lubricate the compressor. To add Freon you need to access the Low pressure port and jump the Low pressure safety switch for the initial can of Freon.

There are tool loaner programs at the big Autoparts stores which can allow for this process.

These same stores may have electric Vacuum pumps to purge your empty system for refill. If you do not have enough pressure left in your system, outside air can enter. If you are lucky and timely, a refill with Sealant Freon mix after purging the system can restore it.

Every car is a different case. As your car is 10 years old, it may have been leaking slowly for years, or in the last week. You never know until you try finding the leak. Some people just spring forward and trust the Sealant to work. Others use devices known as sniffers or leak detectors before trying to refill the system. Some leaks can be so small or in places with no visual access.

The cheapest way is to use the Sealant Freon after testing the pressure. Use gauges to determine system pressure.

Please comment on my info.

Do I have to change my compressor? This is my 3rd freon refill. A 230E '99 MB.

no you do not need a new compressor; take your car to an ac shop and, make sure they change the fill valves (they look like oversized tire valves inside the compressor where the freon lines attach (after time the o-rings fail in these and, they leak refrigerant; obviously your dealer has an incompetent ac mechanic or. these should have been inspected and, if having failed: replaced.

I'm trying to put freon in my car and it won't take it... What can the problem be?

To put freon in the system, the vehicle has to be running and turn the ac to max. it may take 5 minutes or so per can . if it still won't take it ,the valve where you are refilling could be bad or after you put the hose on the can of freon you have to unscrew the t handle screw that is used to puncture the can to release the freon through the hose.

The ac light starts flashing when i begin to refill the system. I replaced the compressor, dryer, evaporator, expansion valve, and pressure switch that connects to the same piping. It is my understanding...

usually you have to have these ac systems vacumed while refilling, also you could have a bad compressor, even if it is new, friend of mine has this same car, bought new comp from autozone, basically same problem you are having, check with auto parts to see exactally how much comp oil is needed and freon, you may have to much freon in it.

My ac in my 2001 civic isn't working the heater works but when I turn the ac button on it blows hot air. I have checked the fuses and attempted to use a sef freon bottle it wouldn't take the freon. Also...

You most likely out of freon. You need to purchase a single charge hose and 134a freon to charge the system. Those charge bottles are hard to get to work. When you start charging the ac system,be sure the engine is running, and the ac is on.Fan on high, and on recirculation. The ac clutch on the compressor will cycle on,and off, until enough freon is in the system.

Have a dodge truck and a jeep cherokee with the same problem, system is charged and compressor is working but only hot air??

since the AC freon is held in the system by oversized tire valves; they leak.
Please check your pressure. If you try to refill; the air in the system; caused by the leak; will prevent the freon going in (air turns to ice) unless you vacuum evacuate the system or, you could have the system checked repaired and, refilled by a certified auto AC shop.
