Question about 1999 Volkswagen Jetta

I have a 2000 jetta vr6 and has been sitting for some time but has been started and run on occasion. it started and ran fine a week ago but now i started it today and the rpms went up to about 2000 then dropped to 400-500 and then shuts off. what could be the problem? has new wires and coil pack. throttle body has been adapted. what should i try next? unplud maf and look for a change?

Worth a try as it eliminates the altitude sensor which is integrated in the air mass meter! This being faulty would cause those symptoms!

2000 Jetta vr6 starts but once in D or R it sputters and stalls


Your problems are unrelated to the stalling. I suspect you may have an air leak in one of the intake hoses. Look around the LH (gearbox side of the engine) for loose pipes. There are a myriad of (small)vacuum hoses which tend to disconnect themselves.

Starts runs than shuts off after replacing ignition wires and bat


The light with the key through the car is the immobilizer. When you changed the battery it must of screwed it up. You will likely need to tow it to the dealer.

Volkswagen jetta 2000 VR6


1.1 mm is the standard gap for a platinum tipped plug. Plugs for this car usually come pre-set but it's always worth checking before installing. Hope this helps.
