REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
3.1L Engine
Besides regular hand tools, a special oil pressure sensor socket will be necessary to complete this operation.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle safely.
  3. Remove the A/C compressor brace (if equipped).
  4. Extract the wiring harness from the retainer and position it out of the way.
  5. Remove the cover from the starter wiring.
  6. Remove the outer nut and disengage the wiring from the starter solenoid.
  7. Disconnect the electrical connector from the oil pressure gauge sensor.
  8. Using the special socket, remove the oil pressure gauge sensor.
  9. Unbolt the starter from the engine. Retain any shims.

To install:
  1. Install the starter to the engine, reuse any shims that were removed. Tighten to 32 ft. lbs. (43 Nm).
  2. Connect the wiring to the solenoid and install the outer nut.
  3. Place the cover over the starter wiring.
  4. Replace the oil pressure gauge sensor using the special socket.
  5. Plug the electrical connector onto the sensor.
  6. Mount the harness to the retainer.
  7. Install the A/C compressor brace (if equipped).
  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Connect the negative battery cable.

Starter usually located low on the front side of the engine and has thick wire going to red or + lead of the battery. This device takes the most amount of amperage draw when cranking of any accessory.

It will have a round barrel about 3.5" to 4.5" in diameter with a smaller barrel piggy backed on to it called a solenoid.
