Question about 2000 Mercury Cougar

2 Answers

Well I have a 2000 Mercury Cougar 2.5L V6 DOCH engine 5 speed and I know its a hydraulic clutchsystem it has,but the problem Im having is getting the car into gear when the car is on, I feel the clutch going in, its starts well, and it will go into gear just fine when the car is off, but wont while its on. And when I turn the car on while in gear, it grinds and kicks me out of gear, any idea what might be the problem here?

Either you have air in the hydraulic lines or there is a problem with the final linkage. Is the slave leaking? Have you had to add fluid to the reservoir? Was the reservoir ever found empty? If yes, fix leak and bleed system. If no, problem is probably in the fianl linkage after the slave. Slave my be loose or linkage worn out? Let us know what you find and if you need more help.

Thers no leak whatsoever, I was told I just need to bleed the system, but is this done from the master cylinder as if I were bleeding the brakes or is ti from somewhere else?

like bleeding brakes, you bleed at the slave. you open bleeder, somebody else pushes pedal down, and you close bleeder before they let up. Repeat until all air is out. How did air get in the line--do you know? Seems strange to have air if there is no leak.

Ok so I just got done bleeding the slave cylinder and it started working at first but now it seems like the clutch is having a delayed reaction, there was no air in the lines, could it be the slave cylinder itself not distributing the fluid right?

could be the slave seal is bad, but there would normally be a leak in that case. more likely your master cylinder piston seal has gone bad, reducing the pressure. Hard to tell which one is bad without taking them out and bench testing for pressure. The slave is probably easier to take out. To bench test, you fill it up, plug the port, and see if the piston will slide. If it slides, the seal is bad.

I have a 1999 mercury cougar v6 2.5l and says that #5 cylinder misfires. When you go above 30mph to highway speed it starts to buck and kick. Check engine light also flashes and then stays on completely....

Sounds like its the #5 cylinder injector. But if you have to change it you better change 1-5 also. Because it will happen to the rest of them.

If you are referring to the Check Engine light then this indicates there is a problem with the emissions system. Have the ECU scanned with an OBD2 scan tool. The fault code that has been set by the ECU will tell you where to look for the problem. If the engine is running fine there is no hurry, but do have this looked into. If you are referring to the oil pressure light stop driving the car until you get this repaired as it may be serious.

I have a 2001 mercury cougar with the 2.5L v6 engine and the number 2 cylinder is misfiring. ive replace the spark plugs and wires but it still misfires

Its time to do a injector balance and cylinder leakage test, to determine whether the injector or its circuitry is bad . The leakage test will tell you if the cylinder has a compression leak.
