1995 chevy 350 motor, MAP vacuum hose when i put some gas in parked. the engine would cut off losing rpm when the MAP vacuum hose is connected. and when i disconnect the MAP vacuum hose, it wouldn't do that. some work has been done on it like EGR Valve and Distributor Cap replaced. i don't know what else late john did some work.

there is no engine light on. i'm not able to get a trouble code at this time. the truck has been tune up i forgot to mention it. i did a cold start up and it was fine, and put some gas, the engine wouldn't cut off only when i was about to drive off the driveway, the engine would start to cut off again and went to park it back.

  • josephwynne_ Oct 08, 2010

alright, i'll have to order a scanner and start from there. thanks, joe

i live in a remote place, barge is too expensive... i'd be saving if i just buy the code reader.

Is there a check engine light on? Were you able to pull a trouble code from the computer. At this point, it seems like the MAP sensor is at fault, but I want to be sure there are no other codes.

This sounds like a classic MAP sensor issue. The best way to start a diagnosis is to check for trouble codes stored in memory. Autozone or any other well supplier auto store can do this for free.

  • GetMeOttaHere Oct 08, 2010

You don't have to purchase one, Autozone and other auto stores will pull a code for you for free. A scanner is a more detailed diagnostic tool to trouble shoot problems. A code reader will read the stored codes, this is the free service.

I would check the IAC motor or idle air control motor, heres a little info.about the part.Stratus Sedan, 1999-2005 Idle Air Control Motor

Description & Operation

Not for Dodge Stratus Sedan
The idle air control motor (IAC) attaches to the throttle body. It is an electric stepper motor. The PCM adjusts engine idle speed through the idle air control motor to compensate for engine load, coolant temperature or barometric pressure changes. The throttle body has an air bypass passage that provides air for the engine during closed throttle idle. The idle air control motor pintle protrudes into the air bypass passage and regulates airflow through it.
The PCM adjusts engine idle speed by moving the IAC motor pintle in and out of the bypass passage. The adjustments are based on inputs the PCM receives. The inputs are from the throttle position sensor, crankshaft position sensor, coolant temperature sensor, MAP sensor, vehicle speed sensor and various switch operations (brake, park/neutral, air conditioning).

When engine rpm is above idle speed, the IAC is used for the following functions:

Off-idle dashpot Deceleration air flow control A/C compressor load control (also opens the passage slightly before the compressor is engaged so that the engine rpm does not dip down when the compressor engages)

Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Disconnect the IAC electrical connector.
  3. Remove the IAC mounting screws.
  4. Remove the IAC.

To Install:
  1. Install the IAC to the throttle body.
  2. Tighten mounting screws to 5.1 Nm (45 inch lbs.) torque.
  3. Attach electrical connector to the IAC.
  4. Connect the negative battery cable.

Do you know where i can find a 'vacuum diagram' for a turbo 350 transmission (1980 chevy blazer...stalls when you put it in gear)

There is usually only one vacuum connection on a turbo 350. It connects to the modulator valve on the side of the transmission. This valve uses engine vacuum to determine transmission shift points. The other end usually connects to a direct engine vacuum source. A "direct source" is a hose connection on the throttle body that has a vacuum signal available at idle. If it doesn't, then it's considered a "ported source".I have had some experience with the chevy blazer/gmc jimmy series, both the early large body models and the small body versions. The stalling when put into gear complaint is most likely caused by a bad intake gasket which is common on the older versions with the small block V8 motors. The newer versions with the vortek motors also had allot of trouble with throttle body gaskets. If these problems have not already been addressed, then there's a good chance that it will take care of the problem. Other possible sources of vacuum leaks are the pcv hose that is hard and brittle. Check the hose out carefully, especially the side that normally faces the engine. Check the throttle body bolts (carburetor bolts) for tightness. I hope that this information is helpful to you. Thank you for using Fixya.com.

My 1993 chevy caprice wont stay started changed pluges wires fuel pump distributer cap and cleaned injectors

For the engine to stay running the ECM will need to know how much Air is need,You engine is speed density, There is only 2 places of concern IAC (idle air control) and Map (manifold air pressure). The idle air control is a 4 wire stepper motor, The ECM make changes to maintain desired idle, When this IAC fails the engine management can no longer maintane desired idle and engine stalls. Your going to have inspect the pintle to see if it has the ability to extend to raise RPM and if it can retract to lower RPM. As for the MAP sensor just inspect to see it any of the vacuum hose has fell out or is cut or if you hear a hissing noise, If anything the IAC has failed

Theres no mercury but all heat and air in every car are basically the same of course i can work on engines rebuild them trouble shoot them built a 350 4 my chevy chevelle when i was 17 but this vacum hose...

Maybe it's not a HOSE it may be one of the Diaphram actuators have a leaky diaphram.
That may be harder to find then one that has completely failed.
If you were loosing vacuum the engine would run poorly - right.
I'm thinking may be a slow leak in the diaphram in one of the vacuum actuators / vacuum motors.

I have a 1995 chevy geo tracker that goes alright after 2 rpm on flat land but going up hill loses a lot of power .When sitting still i will press the gas and it will go to 2 rpm and then die down to 1 and...

What your reffering to is 1=1000rpm, 2=2000rpm, etc.

Sounds like you are losing power due to possibly wear on the engine; being a 1995 model, I bet it has lots of miles on it.

Your motor is probably just wore out and needs replaced or rebuilt.

1995 CHEVY SILVERADO 350 ENGINE CODE #32 WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

Hello girlspy0: My name is Roger and I will help you. Code 34 is related to the MAP sensor. This is usually a repair that requires electronic knowledge. If you think the map sensor is the problem the part is pricey.I would not replace the part for sake of replacing it. Check connection to make sure no wires are broken or pushed out of the terminal socket. The problem could also lie in the ECM or PCM. Should You need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer you received. This way I know if it helped. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

check for lose vacuum hoses or lose throttle hose make sure you air flow meter ducks are tite if you see everything ok then the idle speed control valve could be dirty with a little carburetor cleaner spray while engine is running open throttle and spray into throttle till you can see throttle is clean you may have to do this a few time hope this information is useful good luck

1995 cadillac eldorado revs up by it self

CSP, It sounds like you have a vacuum leak that is causing the IAC ( idle air control ) motor to move in and out trying to control the idle. Check all vacuum hoses on the engine for disconnect, cracked or damaged. If the hoses crack when you bend them, they need to be replaced.
Let me know what you find and we can go from there.
