Dealer quoted $1200 for replacing the water pump and timing belt. Saw that the water pump is less than $100, so is this price primarily for labor?

Hi it does sound like it is, bearing in mind the belt is about $25, as you said water pump $100 plus 4.5 to 5 hours labour if that's $100 an hour..that works out to be $625, plus gasket, and coolant about $50 ish, so they are charging you allot more really than it should be, even if the labour is a higher rate, that still is over the top, i would shop around...hope this helps

How much does it cost for oil pump? my auto dealer is asking for about $1200 with labor, is it too much or is it reasonable price?

the price is very reasonable as it entails removing the motor from the car then removing the sump oil pump and replacing same unfortunately there are no short cuts to doing this job so to set your mind at ease price the oil pump your self and then ask your mechanic how much is his labour an hour and also get other quotes from other garages just to set your mind at ease hope this helps you regards keith cameron

TIMING BELT REPLACEMENT TIME IS AT 105000.IF TIMING BELT NEED CHANGING I WOULD ALSO CHANGE WATER PUMP BECAUSE IT HAS TO BE REMOVED TO GET TO TIMING BELT.TIMING BELT HAS TO BE REPLACED.IT WOULD BE CHEAPER TO PAY $775.00 THEN TO PAY $3000.00 OR $4000.00 FOR A NEW ENGINE THATS INCLUDING LABOR IN ALL.

What's a reasonbale price to replace the timing belt? I have 215k on the civic. Do you replace the water pump as well?

Im thinking 5.0 hrs shop labor and $50 for the belt.At this mileage you probably will be faced with extras like tensioners,pumps,seals etc.Its always best to do everything one time. Avg shop labor is $80 so you might pay $450 for this repair but less is always nice,however due to the extras,this might climb to a $750 repair....

When to replace timing belt? what's the avg. cost?

I recommend 60-90K Cost depends on the dealerships labor but usually when your doing a timing belt, radiator hoses and fan belts are removed and should be replaced while your in there. Its about 3hrs, more if other things need to be replaced while in there. So you looking at $300+ for labor only

Volkswagon passat 4 motion v-6 timing belt

Your engine uses a belt, the shop most likely wants to use a timing belt kit, you should replace the cam belt driven water pump as well

This is the timing belt kit
ACDELCO Part # TCK297P {6 Components (1 Belt, 1 Tensioner, 1 Idler, 3 Seals) #19164609}
BELT KIT,TMG INTERFERENCE ENGINE APPLICATION; DOES NOT INCLUDE CAM. TENSIONER HYD. ASSY.; TIMING BELT COMPONENT KIT W/SEAL PRICE $167.79

This is the water pump
CARDONE SELECT Part # 5583414 moreinfo.gif PRICE $70.99

So about $150 for parts, labor should be around 3-4 hours, here is California the job would price out for around $600.00

The parts are from the lowest price I found on the internet, this is WWW.Rockauto.com
