Question about 2005 Nissan Altima

1 Answer

I have a 2005 2.5 Ultima with a Standard Transmission. I get an incredible ground noise coming from the middle. I believe it is coming from where the Trans Axel and Tranny meet. It is not the wheel bearings. The sound builds until around 40 MPH. Then it is loud and comes from the middle. I can feel a vibration on my foot from the gas pedal. There is no extra wear on the tires. What is the problem? How do you fix it and can I replace it myself?

There is a service bulletin on this. Apparently there have been reports of bad connectors and power wiring to the transmission control module.
I believe the tcm is inside the transmission. This is usually a job for a pro, but I have included the wiring diagram below. Power comes to the tcm on pin 4. The ground is on pins 21 and 22.

Engine code U 1000 on a 2005 Nissan Ultima

It's possible that it could be a loose battery cable, or maybe some sort of grounding issue with the wiring harness. Try cleaning all grounds and securing the battery posts. Check for faulty battery. Get yourself a good factory manual, you can get one from for cheap.
