Question about 1986 Ford Thunderbird

1 Answer

I need to replace the oil prssure sensor/switch on a 1986 Ford Thunderbird. The mechanic shop charges $90, but I found the part on line and at the parts store for under $5. My local mechanic informed me that you need a special tool to replace this part and that is why it is so expensive. I found the tool I need at NAPA for under $10. They described it as a socket with a **** in the side to get around the wires when replacing the part. My main problem is locating the part to replace it. I am not a real advanced mechanic, but due to money issues I feel I should atleast give it a try for $15. Can you help with some sort of picture of where this is on the engine? Thanks, Julie

1986 ford thunderbird oil gauge on and beeping

I would check that the engine oil level is high, then I would check that the pressure is high enough by plugging a gauge into the oil pressure switch socket after removing the oil pressure switch.

There is a possibility that the oil pressure switch is bad, or the oil pump has failed, unfortunately.

Want to remove my air conditioning pump from my 1997 Ford Thunderbird 4.6, without disconnecting the pump lines to remove the motor do I need to discharge the coolant? and if I do how?

if you can move it out of way without disconnecting lines then no do not haver to discharge. if you have to remove lines to get compressor out of your way then yes will need to have discharged. find a local shop with recovery equipment and ask how much they will charge to evacuate and charge back up when you complete job

1986 Ford Thunderbird. Turn signal does not

Have you checked the contacts to make sure they are touching the bulb base. I have a 1995 Ford Contour that did the same thing. I took a screwdriver and bent the contacts out very slightly and it has worked fine ever since.
