SOURCE: Hood Won't Open, and Lever Broke

Hi viper852004 , the only way you can do this is to remove the front grills and then you will be able to see the 2 sprung bonnet pegs, you will need to loosen the adjusting nut where it screws into the hood and unscrew it until it becomes unattatched from the hood, do this for both pegs and then you should be able to release the hood to fix the problem. the pegs will need to be reinstalled before driving the car as the hood will not close, hope this is of some help, regards mark.

SOURCE: My hood latch is broken

If the cable link to the latch is rusty or broken you have to take the front grid down. It's relatively easy. It's held there by plastic fasteners. Then reach for the latch with you hand, or the leftover broken cable. Pull it, it should release the first latch, than you just have to get to the security latch, like you usually do to open the hood.

My hood safety latch want release the hood so it can open. How can I get around this

You will need to use a long tool and some spray lube to get it to pop. Have some one hold up on the interior latch while you try 'slapping down' on the front of the hood with your hands and if that doesn't work, try the spray through the grill area. Use the long tool with a flashlight to try pushing the latch from the grill area. Good luck!

Hood wont open 2005 cavalier

Is the cable broke? If not, try having someone push up and down on the hood (Gently) while you pull the hood release. If it does open, get out the WD-40 and lube the latch and cable.
If not or the cable is broken, you might try "fishing" a coat hangar wire with a loop in one end between the grill and radiator to hook the hood release latch where the cable attaches. Pull the wire and it MAY open. Good Luck... ....

How to open the hood

After pulling latch under dash, it should just barely pop open. Use fingertips and lift on front edge of hood. Then use lever located in middle of the grill to release completely. Then, most important, lubricate all rubber moldings along hood that come in contact with body sections, and then lube the spring latch and clean the loop on underside of hood. It will still always be very tight to open. Just a design flaw I think.

The hood will not open on my 2002 subaru legacy. can you help me?

try having someone hold the hood release open while you lift the hood. sometimes if you push down first then up it will release. If there is no way to get it open you might try to see the bolts through the grille to unbolt the hood latch through the
grille. If you cant get to it that way try to come from the bottom. Sometimes you can put a long screwdriver through the grille opening and reach the hood latch where the cable hooks and pry it the same way the cable would pull it. If you cant get it through the grille you will have to come from the bottom with a long screw driver to reach the hood latch at the radiator support and find the latch release action. you will have to remove some splash covers under the rediator support.

Broken hood latch cable S-10 chevrolet 2000 can not open hood

The best way to gain access is to remove the grille. Look in the holes of the grille and you'll see screws that hold the grille in place. Unscrew these and pull the grille out, then you can gain access to the bottom side of the hood latch with a screw driver to pop it open.
When replacing the release cable, be sure to grease the wear points at the latch and where the cable connects.
