Hi! Please perform the following procedure
a. loosen the wheels but dont take the lugnuts yet
b. secure the car by using a jack stand after you lift the car
c. remove the wheels
d. loosen the nuts on the top of the shocks from the inside
e. loosen the bolts that holds the shocks
f. Loosen the nut that holds the spring but be sure that you use a special tool to hold firm the spring for this may cause serious injury if it pops out.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa!

SOURCE: instruction on how to change

Hello Paul. For starters, the top of the shocks on your car are hooked to the sub-frame. They do not hook to the body of the car as is usually the case. That said, replacing rear shocks requires jacks, jacks stands and large wrenches. If you do not have these items, you may be money ahead to call a few local repair shops and get estimates on having them do the deed. IF you are going to proceed on your own, here is an excellent step-by-step tutorial

Replacing rear shocks on E-150

They sell a special wrench to do this. I typically cut the ram and use a small pipe wrench to turn the ram leaving a box wrench on the nut. If you have torches you can just burn the top off the shock. They are much easier to put back in!!

1995 Jag XJ6 Rear Issues...need to fix ASAP.

My 1994 Vanden Plas makes the same noise. I know I need rear shocks. You do also!! Have the rear shocks replaced. Bilstein part number B46 1858 or Koni part  number 30 1377. Actually the Bilstein is the better shock and less expensive.
