I did not find the instructions for a 2.9 L engine per se, but the following should be good for many American models of the 1991 Nissan d21 Pickup truck: REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable at the battery, then disconnect the positive battery cable at the starter. Fig. 1: Starter removal on 4WD - 6-cylinder engine how do you remove the starter from a 1991 nissan - 86713015.gif
    Fig. 2: Starter removal on 2WD - 6-cylinder engine 86713016.gif

  2. On 4wd models with the 6-cylinder engine:
    1. Remove the front gravel shield.
    2. Detach the oil pressure switch connector.
    3. Drain the engine oil and remove the oil filter. CAUTION
The EPA warns that prolonged contact with used engine oil may cause a number of skin disorders, including cancer! You should make every effort to minimize your exposure to used engine oil. Protective gloves should be worn when changing the oil. Wash your hands and any other exposed skin areas as soon as possible after exposure to used engine oil. Soap and water, or waterless hand cleaner should be used.
    4. Remove the exhaust manifold heat insulator.
    5. Remove the fuel tube retainer bolt.
  3. On 2wd models with the 6-cylinder engine:
    1. Remove the front right wheel.
    2. Remove the front gravel shield.
    3. Remove the exhaust manifold heat insulator.
    4. Remove the exhaust manifold.
    5. Detach the oil pressure switch connector.
  4. Unfasten the remaining electrical connections at the starter solenoid.
  5. Remove the two nuts holding the starter to the bell housing, then pull the starter toward the front of the vehicle and out. To install:
  6. Insert the starter into the bell housing, being sure that the starter drive is not jammed against the flywheel.
  7. Tighten the attaching nuts and secure all electrical connections to the starter assembly.
  8. Install all remaining components in reverse order of removal.
  9. Reconnect the battery cables. If applicable, refill and check the oil level. Check the starter assembly for proper operation.

Cant get starter out of 1991 nissian pickup

Take the right front tire off and remove the sphash guard, using a rachet, couple of
extentions and a swivel head you can get to the starter bolts.
There is limited access and its a slow go, but not to bad.
I just removed mine from 1991 Nissan and had it rebuilt for around 100.00 dollars.

Replacing starter for 1991 Honda accord lx with pics

If you want to change the starter motor, first disconnect the positive cable to the battery. Then under the intake manifold on the passenger side and between the engine and the firewall you should see the starter motor. It has a large cable that comes directly from the battery and a small wire that comes from the ignition. Disconnect both of them and then there should be two bolts that thread into the engine block, one on the top and the other one on the bottom. remove those and the started should be free. Replace in reverse.

Can't get the starter out of a 1991 Nissan pickup.

The second bolt is hidden way up and tucked in near the solenoid. You need to setup a ratchet with extensions/socket (14mm) combination that is just a little longer than the starter motor. If you just can't picture where the bolt is, then go down to the parts store and look at/purchase the replacement starter to see how it mounts up.
There are two bolts for the starter mount and one nut for the main starter power lead. There is one plug for the starter key switch.
Disconnect plug. Loosen lower bolt. Remover upper bolt. Remove lower bolt. Twist starter so you can remove main power cable nut (be sure to have disconnected the battery first!) Pull starter.

1991 nissan stanza starter problems

Hi Jim.

When you turn the key, you should at least hear the starter solenoid click. When you turn the key the ignition switch sends 12 volts to the Starter solenoid ( really just a relay). The Solenoid closes and applies 12 volts (at a high current) to the starter motor to crank the engine. If you have a way to measure voltage, you should get 12 volts at the small terminal on the starter solenoid. The solenoid is mounted on the top of the starter motor. If you get 12 volts but no cranking, the solenoid is not working. If you get 12 volts and the starter doesn't crank the starter is defective. At this [point take a small hammer and tap the starter motor, not hard, just medium. Sometimes this will cause the starter motor to catch next time you turn the key. Best bet is to remove the starter motor (with solenoid attached) and take it to an Auto Zone type store where they can check it out for you. Be dure you disconnect the ground terminal of the battery before you attempt to remove the starter motor.

Hope this helps Good luck loringh PS Please leave a rating for me if appropriate Thks
