OK check for any obstruction that might play a part in obstructing free movement of the steering mechanism when turning right. Next compare the ends of the left and right hands end of the steering rack The steering arms are held in the middle of the steering rack ends by a doughnut shaped bush bearing. If this has been damaged the rack will be dragging on the inside of the casing when the steering is turned in one direction. It could be that the end bearing on the left is shot and this is what is obstructing the turn to the right. The next thing to take care of is the fact that you have the engine stalling under load. This points to an idle speed control problem. Check that the throttle body interior and throttle plate are really clean and that the idle speed control valve on the throttle body is actuating properly. If suspect unbolt and give this a thorough interior clean out.

Cant get key switch out of housing, on a 1974 chevy pick up.Trere are no screws or clips visible.

If you mean remove the ignition tumbler from the steering column, you will have to remove the steering wheel and lock plate, then you will need to remove the turn signal lever and screws, and then pull the turn signal switch up and out of the way, you should then be able to see the housing for the ignition tumbler down in the steering column. Look at the tumbler housing and there should be a small slot towards the end of the housing that you can put a small standard screwdriver into and depress a locking latch that is built into the tumbler. When this latch is depressed you will be able to pull the ignition tumbler straight out of the column.

I have an 89 chevy sport van and it runs for a little while and then just dies we had a new fuel pump put on along with the new hoses but could this be a bad ECM causing the van to just stop running?

I would not go that far yet.Replace the ignition module in the distributor first. It is the most likely problem. It is common on these models to do this.

Security light is blinking - GMC 2500 van won't start

replace the ignition lock cylinder, that should cure the problem, but u will need to have the VATS module re-programmed to accept the new VATS key resistance value, this is preformed by the dealer only.

1989 Chevy truck. The key is stuck in the run position. I can turn it to start and it returns to run. I cannot turn it to off. Do I remove the steering wheel to access the tumbler? What am I looking for to...

yes remove the wheel, lock cylinder is wore out. with wheel off, key in on position look for a small slot looking you in the eye, put a nail file in it to release the spring tab and pull cylinder out. buy new one at auto parts store first to look at if you can youll see how to alot better they are fairly simple. good luck!
