The radio stays in "safe" mode. The car battery is brand new, and no fuses are blown. What else could cause this?

you need to enter your code to restore the radio function after changing battery. Check your paperwork for the car to find the radio code.

Whenever you disconnect the battery, the radio will need a code fed into it,this is available from your local dealer for a charge in the USA but NOT anywhere else, the first owner may have written a 4 digit code in the service book(fat chance)if you are outside USA specialist dealers can recode your radio(at a cost)but i have found its better to buy a new radio with a aux input for mp3.(matter of choice.)but cos i live in England, labour rates are £85 per radio costs £45 fitted.please tell all your friends re the radio code, could cost them a lot of inconvenience/money.especially if a "friend"replaces thier radio...........

I have fed the code in, but it continues to go back to safe mode. Could it possibly be a loose connection on the radio itself?

if you are sure its the right code, leave the unit on for about an hour then try again, you only get 3 hits then have to wait 24 hours..........unit on.....

Thanks. I'll try this and let you know whether I came right.

Radio not working

sounds to me like the radio lost its pass word code.
(or a power amp fuse is blown)
check fuses. , this time. more carefully.
some radios go to now amp mode, will tune but are in pass word mode.
if you drain the battery , this happens everytime.
oldest story in the world this.....

if all power pins on the radio have 12vdc and if radio has external amp
there are like 4 or 5 radio options on new jeeps.
so if it has an external amp,it too has power pins, if they have 12vdc
then the fuse is not blown. (the fsm shows the wiring and fuses, read the FSM)
if the radio is still dead, it can be the radio code issue.
if the fuses are good , its Jeep dealer time.

Blown fuses

sounds like a bad ground somewhere or check your ground wire on your starter and even your igniton switch cause if they go bad then your car either wont start or wont stay running

Battery won't stay charged, it is brand new battery, alternator has been checked and it is good, blown BTN 60 watt fuse, on 1994 Mazda Protege.

The 60amp fuse probably is in the circuit between the alternator and the battery. Which would be why the battery is not getting charged.
Someone would need to check for a short in the wiring between the alternator and the battery.

1999 Jetta change battery, radio dead

Actually pull out the radio fuse for 15 seconds and then re-install. Mine usta just quit working once in a great while, and this was the fix. Radio fuse #42 if this is a "New Jetta A4 body" or fuse # 22 on an older "A3 body style"

Was in SAFE mode now screen is blank

bad ground or bad power source behind radio and radios sometimes has fuse to the back of radio
something might have surged the cars electrics

some vehicles come with 3 fuses for radios sometimes more
these fuses are listed as
fuse box
power wire fuse box this will be located on the power wire to radio
and then you have the radio fuse

some radios have what they call an antitheft shutdown if the code was not properly put in after so many times the radio completly shuts off or for a length of time it will also shut down the radio

recommendation take vehicle to dealer so they can show and reapply code for you to you then you would never forget how to do it
