Question about Chrysler Sebring

2 Answers

Wife was putting top down and suddenly it stopped, and will not go down but about half way before it just binds up. The top will close back down ok but will just not go down past a certain point. Dealership says all the clips are bent and must be replaced. Over $500 parts and labor. This seems extremely overboard and I do realize the whole top must come off (lots of labor). Is it not plausible that the clips were defective in the first place to bend so easily? Is there not a recall or bunch of customer complaints? Many thanks in advance! Mike

What would cause all these clips to bend to the point it will not go down? Seems like defective parts to me with no recourse???? Is there 5 hours labor involved with this? Seems steep!

Alrighty, have you tried lubricating the slides? This can help to ease up the motion of the roof.

Recalls are safety related, customer complaints maybe, but do they(makers) take notice when they supply the parts to fix it?????(i know that in the states you have a national site that you can read re the actual customer feedback on specific cars,so why do people still buy them......and (i live in England)$500 is cheap compared to an audi roof $2500.(on a lighter note,it could have been you dropping the lid and what would she have said.....please DO NOT show her this,as i want to live, a little longer)and to answer your question NO they are not defective, but must be lubricated regularly.

I have 1991 Lebaronconvertable. Top goes down ok but lacks about 2 inches from closing, can't close by pulling down. Hydraulic fluid?

Well, if it were me, I'd open up enough covers to get a good look at the mechanism and then watch it in motion. I would guess something is binding on something else close to the end of the travel. You're just going to have to get in there and take a look. If you're not happy doing that, get someone who is. I don't think hydraulic fluid (lack of) is your problem. More likely something is caught close to the end of closing.

2002 Chevy trailblazer. No power to drivers door.

Most common problem is a broken wire between body and door. Pull the rubber boot back and see, easier to find if you know what colour the wire is that is not working.

Electric windows are fine the roof gets half way

If the top is half way down that means that the trunk is open and should be touching the trunk switch to continue the process. The switch must be bad and it is inside the rear right fender close the the stop light

Passenger side window dont go fully up

Hi.
Sounds like the "anti-pinch" mechanism is coming into action on the drivers side.
If the window encounters any resistance when closing it will stop.
Check the window seal for damage and correct fitment, make sure there is nothing obstructing the glass. If you are OK with the seal and channels at either side and the window is going up an down "square", try some lubricant in the channels either side with the window in the down position and operate a few times.

Passenger side. The motor for the window must have been disconnected from battery voltage at some time and it has lost its reference points. That is, where to start and stop.
Nudge the window near to the top, but not closed, then close the window holding the switch down for at least 5 seconds. Then open the window and hold the switch down as before.
You may have to do this more than once.

There should be a section in your owners manual covering this procedure.

I don't think the two problems are connected physically.
