Maybe try to have the transmission fluid flushed and filled at your local auto service shop to try to rectify the problem for about $100 or so.

If this doesn't solve the problem, the transmission will have to be rebuilt.

Suzuki Vitara 1996 when the engine is cold it is hard to change gear

Alot of transmissions have these same problems as they start to wear out. Best suggestion is let it worm up and it should last a while. Remember when we used to have to let all of our cars warm up before we drove them.

good luck hope it last alot longer is a good car u got there.

Suzuki vitara- 2 Gear Knobs

it is a part time 4x4 .it is meant for ice, mud, snow gravel etc.
do not use on dry road.
the wheels are locked together and in a turn the outside wheels have to turn faster and they can't.
that is why there is hopping in 4x4 when making a sharp turn on dry pavement.pressure builds up in the driveline until the tires slip on the road.
only full time or awd systems are for dry road, they have slippage units so the pressure does not build.

1999 2.0 suzuki vitara will not select reverse when cold, have to leave idling until warm

you may need to change the transmission fluid and filter, when the filter becomes blocked it will not let the cold/thicker fluid through once it warms up the fluid thins outs allowing it to go into gear and shift again

Stiff gears

You can try using synthetic gear lube, I have found it reduces shift effort by at least half when it is cold.
