Either the ABS Module is bad or the Pump is bad--- Pump REMOVAL & INSTALLATION 1989-90 Models

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Depressurize the hydraulic accumulator. CAUTION
Failure to depressurize the hydraulic accumulator, prior to performing this operation may result in personal injury and/or damage to the painted surfaces.
  2. Remove the fresh air intake ducts.
  3. Disconnect all electrical connectors to the pump motor.
  4. Disconnect the high and low pressure hoses from the hydraulic assembly. Cap the spigot on the reservoir.
  5. Disconnect the shift selection cable bracket from the transaxle and move it aside.
  6. Loosen the nuts on the 2 studs that position the pump/motor to the transaxle differential cover.
  7. Remove the retainer bolts that are used to mount hose bracket and pump/motor. The engine inlet water extension pipe is also held in position by these bolts. NOTE: Do not disturb the inlet water extension pipe, or engine coolant will leak out.
  8. Disconnect the wiring harness retaining clip from the hose bracket.
  9. Lift the pump/motor assembly off of the studs and out of the vehicle.
  10. Remove the heat shield from the pump/motor, if equipped and discard. To install:
  11. Place a new heat shield onto the pump/motor bracket, using fasteners provided.
  12. Install the pump/motor assembly onto the studs.
  13. Install the wiring harness retaining clip onto the hose bracket.
  14. Install the retainer bolts to the hose bracket and pump/motor. Tighten securely.
  15. Tighten the 2 nuts until secure.
  16. Install the shift selection cable bracket onto the transaxle.
  17. Connect the high and low pressure hoses to the hydraulic assembly and tighten to 13 ft. lbs. (17 Nm).
  18. Attach all electrical connectors to the pump/motor.
  19. Install the air ducts.
  20. Readjust the gearshift linkage, if it was disturbed.
  21. Connect the negative battery cable and check the assembly for proper operation.
1991-95 Models
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. CAUTION
Failure to depressurize the hydraulic accumulator, prior to performing this operation may result in personal injury and/or damage to the painted surfaces.
  2. Depressurize the brake system.
  3. Remove the fresh air intake ducts from the engine.
  4. Remove the clip holding the high pressure line to the battery tray.
  5. Disconnect the electrical connectors running across the engine compartment in the vicinity of the pump/motor high and low pressure hoses. One of these connectors is the one for the pump/motor assembly.
  6. Disconnect the high and low pressure hoses from the hydraulic assembly. Cap or plug the reservoir fitting.
  7. Disconnect the pump/motor electrical connector from the engine mount.
  8. Remove the heat shield bolt from the front of the pump bracket. Remove the heat shield.
  9. Lift the pump/motor assembly from the bracket and out of the vehicle. Fig. 1: The pump/motor assembly mounts to the top of the transaxle case and is covered by a heat shield I have a 1992 Crysler - 86729g75.gif
    To install:
  10. Fit the pump motor assembly onto the bracket; install the heat shield and its retaining bolt.
  11. Install the pump/motor electrical connector to the engine mount.
  12. Connect the high and low pressure hose to the hydraulic assembly. Tighten the high pressure line to 145 inch lbs. (16 Nm). Tighten the hose clamp on the low pressure hose to 10 inch lbs. (1 Nm).
  13. Connect the electrical connectors which were removed for access.
  14. Install the high pressure line retaining clip to the battery tray if it was removed.

Pretty major problem here. My '92 Chrysler Imperial entered the "safe mode" for it's transaxle, then proceeded to stall on the next stop. It now will not start again. I need to fix this ASAP.

it is in limp mode because of a problem in the transmission
you will have to run the fault codes to determine the area of failure
areas to check for will be TCM , turbine speed sensor, servos, pump pressure sensors
take it to an accredited auto transmission specialist shop
it appears that the transmission control module doesn't know what ratio to select so at this point I would be wary of "new box" comments until the reason can be properly explained

1992 Imperial idles low

All vehicles have adjustments for idle. All you have to do is locate where it is and do the deed. U might have a screw adjustment on the linkage connected to gas pedal.

Abs light on accord 1992

ABS control unit recognizes system related problems and causes ABS warning light to come on and stay on under any of following conditions:
  • ABS pump runs longer than 2 minutes.
  • Vehicle is driven with parking brake on longer than 30 seconds.
  • One rear wheel is locked.
  • Wheel speed sensor does not transmit a signal.
  • Vehicle is driven on extremely rough road.
  • Low battery voltage.
  • Operation time of solenoid valves exceeds a specified value and control unit indicates an open circuit in solenoid circuit.
  • Output signals from control unit are not transmitted to solenoid valves.
  • Temporary loss of traction due to excessive cornering speed or starting from stuck condition (mud, snow or sand).

1992 oldsmobile 88, my brakes lock up; anti-lock light is on; abs light is on; had new brakes put on but they are locking up too. They make my car grind to a halt.

You have a bad ABS unit most likely. It could be a mastercylinder, but with the light on I would go with ABS unit. Sometimes unplugging it and leaving it unplugged will help. I have seen this work 3 out of 5 times.

Abs light wont go out

When u power up the vehicle ABS does a self test(light stays on a few seconds then cuts off) and if it see's a problem will shut off and illuminate the ABS lamp. It will also do a second test on iself when you reach a speed of around 12-15 mph,it will run the pump for a few seconds to check pressure and look at the speed sensors,if it see a problem here it will again shut down and illuminate the ABS light.
Now if the red brake lamp is on then it will shut down because it thinks you have a hydraulic concern and will not try and run ABS if this is the case.
If red brake lamp is on most likely if you have good brakes it is a problem with the float sensor in the master cylinder reservior, maybe its bad or just stuck,or just low on fluid.

1994 Audi 80 2.0 ABS Light Comes On then Engine Cuts Off

abs fault if you feel it though the pedal its activating, it should not activated, you will probably need to replace the abs unit as it would be the valve in the pump. engine cuts out as its found a fault.
