Question about 2000 Honda Passport

3 Answers

I have a 2000 Honda Passport. About a month ago I was sitting still and someone hit me from behind and pushed my Honda into a Hummer. Since this accident my Honda has been jumping when taking off on a hill. What is causing this?

It is an auto. Only body work was done. When I take off on a hill it seems to not want to go (from the rear of the car). It jumps. It is also a 4 wheel drive if that helps. Do you know if the transmission filter pushes in or bolts in? Someone told me tonight that if it pushes in it could have fallen down in the accident.

What I meant by jumping is that the car hesitates when I push the gas on a hill, and the car will jump.

Someone who works on Honda's told me that it could be a bad plug wire causing my Passport to hesitate on a hill and jump when taking off. Does that make sense to you?

I was told by the body shop that the accident didn't cause the problem with the Passport jumping. They said that it just going to happen. I have cashed the check from the insurance company for the repairs to the body. Could I call the insurance company back, and try to get them to repair this problem? It did not jump before the accident.

Start out by replacing the spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap and rotor and then have the vehicles timing adjusted to factory specs. If your Passport is a manual transmission, have the clutch cable adjusted and/or replace the clutch. Replace the fuel filter, a clogged fuel filter would cause your vehicle to jump because of a fuel is not being delivered properly.

It is very likely the fuel pump has been damaged (it is inside the fuel tank), but surely this is an insurance job and of course the problem should be thoroughly inspected by a trained professional shop technician before any part are replaced

Hi,
Im not too sure what you mean by jumping, but is your vehicle an auto or manual?

And what sort of work was done to it when it was damaged?

Let me know and I'll try to get to the bottom of it for you

Thanks

Jason

I will check these for you and come back to you with a probable cause and fix for it.

The filter is a bolt on type so this wont problem, from what I can see it seems that you may have a fluid transfer problem.
Because the transmission cooler piping in in the front of the vehicle it may pay to get the hard pipes checked incase they are dented or bent causing a restriction in the fluid getting around the transmission.

You will need to do a line pressure test also just to find out that the servos seals etc are sealing properly.

But in short, you have a line pressure problem which is causing this fault, let me know if you need more information.

    Thanks

Yes it could be, but if it was a bad plug it would do it all the time.
I mention that it would be a pressure problem because of the accident at the front and also it is a good way to make sure that all the fluid system and pressure system is ok.

Most shifting problems that occur are usually cause by low pressures or electrical faults, and because it only happens when you try to go up hill. When the vehicle needs to go up hill it has to increase to pressure in the transmission, so it would pay just to check this area first.

Can a 2000 Honda Passport Automatic transmission be Flat Towed behind a motor home?

no
the drive wheels will operated the automatic transmission which will have no pump operation to push oil through the bearings and gears causing over heating and failure
towing details are in your user manual
ask a specialist transmission shop
best to put it on a small car trailer

2013 Volkswagen Beetle airbags did not deploy in my accident

The airbag technology uses many factors when deploying. If it doesn't see the need, they won't pop out at you possibly injuring you more than the small accident. When I was clipped on my rear corner and spun me around in the intersection, they didn't pop. But a head first hit popped them. The primary sensor is behind the front bumper

Could be the horn relay, a problem with the blow pad on the steering wheel, or other wiring problem. I would try the relay first.

(1999 Honda Passport) I have a knock in my engine, it is getting to be very loud and I have been told I have a lifter out. I bought the car about a month ago from a family friend who didn't need it...

Dude.. Your looking at needing a new engine. There are no lifters in a dual overhead cam engine. There are only rockers. If you have a "kncok" its more than likely a rod. That means new engine.

If you killed the engine by not adding oil, fixing the rod now is not an option. You have damaged all of the rod and main bearings. Its only a matter of time before the others fail as well.

2000 Honda Passport Fuel Issue?

I have a 2000 Honda Passport. Once mine stalled, it would not restart. Sounded as if out of gas. I thought fuel pump. Took it to service station. They found a short in the electrical system. The fuse kept popping. They replaced blown fuse in coil and module. They tested misc wiring in main harness. They found and repaired bad wires in main harness for module and coils in left front inner fender. My check engine light was on for several months. Since I got it back from repair shop, it has finally gone off! I hope this helps! Good luck!
