You can test the alternator your self, get a multimeter and check the voltage of the battery (black -, red +). Usually car battery rest voltage is 12.3-12.5 V. Once you start your car the voltage should rise immediately to 13.8-14.7 V depending what your alternator puts out. If the voltage does not change after you start your car the alternator is broken.

The alternator is shot, The car will run on a new battery for about 20 mins, then it fizzles out. The alternator contains the regulator, You can take it and get it checked, but I'm sure that is the problem, get your battery charged up while you do the alternator, and keep an eye on the charge light. Make sure it is charging, just because it is new doesn't mean it is good. Hope this helps.
