Disconnect the battery and wires going to the starter. If air charge tube is in the way you can remove it. I am not looking at a S-70 turbo right now but sure that I have never had to remove intake to R&R a starter. There might be a bracket on the passenger side of starter with a 12mm bolt into the front of the engine and two 10mm nuts onto the starter. Remove two 13mm stud bolts that hold starter in place and slide out. New starter goes in reverse order.

Volvo won't start. Key will only go into 1st & 2nd position wont go into neutral. The battery is charged. We have found info that the starter wire (black one next to red one) could be corroded but

It might be the ignition switch. Not the starter. If you aren't even turning the engine over then it's probably the switch or the solenoid on the starter. If it's the solenoid then just replace the whole starter.

The problem is the starter motor vauxhall zafira 2.2 petrol the engine will turn over but its making a sort of wining noice as if its not teeth r not conecting to start engine over also smells of a burning...

I am not that familiar with vauxhall but starters are pretty universal it sounds as if starter is not engaging flywheel all the way either because of aexterior shimming problem during assembly or if this is something new without anyone disturbing original starter it could be solenoid that engages starter pinion to flywheel getting worn out and not engaging all the way or I have even seen where the teeth were not exacly the same angle or even count on a new exact fit oem replacement starter all of which could cause your symptoms

Starter motor engages when motor is running

Check your Solenoid Most likely bad and needs replaced, but it could be key switch not returning, or return spring on the starter bedix and you may need to replace your starter. It would be best to just replace your starter... Usually no way around it everything wears out eventually and this is a common problem when Solenoid is going bad, just had to replace it this summer on Our Ford Truck it was doing the same thing..

Hope that this advice is helpful and gives you a place to start Please rate.vote or/and leave a testimonial for my advice and if I can further assist let me know.

Wont start turns over and clicks even with battery charger on jump start mode

Sounds like a bad starter. Even though the battery is charged the starter is to week to turn the motor over. Try replacing the starter and see it that helps. If that does not work. Go to a dealership mechanic. Thanks for asking!

1989 Econoline 351 started the van today and the starter motor stuck, then later today the van was dead. It has no power at all. The battery is new the ignition module is new. I am stuck. Andrew

If the starter motor remained engaged when you released the key, the underlying cause is likely a bad starter solenoid (first item the positive battery cable connects to after the battery) Remaining engaged, can damage the starter itself. Replace the solenoid, check the starter and you should be finished. (Or also replace the starter if it was damaged)
If the starter was stuck and not engaging, the bendix drive inside the starter has failed...In that case it's best to change the starter as even though it's replaceable, generally by the time it needs replacement the starter is worn in other areas and would need complete overhaul.

Car wont turn over after replaced bad batt.still had prob, replaced starter.no luck ran fine for 2 days prior. motor will turn over by hand. thinking elec prob both starters worked fine off car.

Does the starter engage? Or does the solenoid just click? I would look to be sure you have very good connections on the heavy ground and +12 line to the starter. Make sure the battery connections are good.
I have also seen problems where the starter physically binds when mounted.

Starter replacement on Volvo S90

There are usually 2 wires that connect to the starter. One is a large, thick wire, about the size of your little finger, It comes from the battery. The 2nd wire is a thinner wire, kind of like a soda straw. The large wire goes to the large terminal of the starter and the thinner wire goes on the smaller terminal. Be sure the ground terminal of the battery is disconnected before you try to hook up the starter.

Hope this helps Loringh PS please leave a ranking for me if appropriaye Thank you

1988 Volvo 240 DL won't start B230F

I had more or less the same problem. It would only happen when the engine was cold. According to the mechanic, the fuel pump was going bad. After replacing it, I havent had it happen to me again, granted its only been a couple of days since I changed it.
