How do u install a fuel filter for an 1988 Pontiac Trans am

is it efi engine or carburator ......you may nedd to clean intake throttle body......

I would like to see a diagram of where the fuel filter is on the 1995 Pontiac Trans Sport Van.

The fuel filter is located under the car towards the back directly behind the fuel tank, fuel tank is positioned forward of the rear wheels nearly at center of the car, the FUEL FILTER has 2 threaded metal fuel lines attatched to it.

Your fuel filter may need to be replaced and the other area that needs to ab addressed would be a ICM (ignition control module) going bad. Common for ether issues to cause you the same problems.
You can have your ICM tested at Auto Zone free of charge and you can also pick up the fuel filter from there.

follow the fuel line up from the gas tank and you will find a round canister this is the filter also it is usually located on the driver side under that area

Are you certain that the fuel filter isn't bad and leaking gasoline?

There is a cheap plastic locking mechanism holding the fuel filter inline with the outlet side of the filter. Mine went bad and started leaking fuel everywhere i went. Especially when I was stopped at a light for a long period of time. A cheap tool can be bought at any automotive parts store to remove the old filter , you will need the tool to install a new filter.

If the filter is okay then I would just disregard my post.
