Your gonna have to determine where the fluid is coming from look around the engine if its leaking there its the water pump if not you may have a hose gone bad or a bad heater core.

2002 Subaru outback is leaking antifreeze and not heating up.

This is common issue early sign head gaskets failure for EJ251 SOHC engine for external coolant leak. Second gen 96-99 with EJ25D is worst because when head gaskets failed, it's an internal leak that allows coolant and oil mix together in the combustion chamber to destroy engine.
You can drive it for at least 6 months or more as long as you keep top up coolant since the leak should be small at a slower rate leak. I drove mine for a while before change head gaskets. You're looking at `$1000-1200 job a dealership since you might as well change the timing belt, water pump, idlers while engine is pulled to replace head gaskets.

Im getting antifreeze fumes from the engine area but no leaks.

I would pressure test your cooling system which would cause any otherwise unnoticeable pinhole leaks to spray a small mist of coolant if there was in fact a leak present. I had a similar problem with my wife's dodge caravan, I kept smelling coolant after she drove the vehicle for long periods and I checked the entire cooling system and inside vehicle for a potential heater core rupture and nothing was ever seen and coolant level always remained full. A couple days later I noticed the same thing and allowed the vehicle to cool down, I then pressure tested it at 16 lbs, I did not notice a drop in the guage but then I noticed 1 small drop of coolant coming from the water neck where I had replaced the thermostat several months back. I torqued the bolts down a little more rinsed off the area and have not noticed the smell anymore. That 1 drop of coolant would immediately evaporate once it hit the block but the smell was strong enough to get my attention and to figure out what was going on

1999 Olds Alero 4 cyl running hotter than normal. One mechanic says it's Heat sensor that opens and closes. The other mechanic who ran car says it was thermostat that turns on dual fans. Ok well one was...

REPLACE THERMOSTAT.ITS STICKING CLOSE TO KEEP COOLANT FROM CIRCULATING THROUGH ENGINE AND RADIATOR. THE FANS SHOULD COME ON WHEN VECHICLE SETTING AT A LONG IDLE.THE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR GET TO CERTAIN TEMPERATURE WHICH WILL COMPLETE CIRCUIT PCM SEND POWER TO COOLANT SENSOR THEN TO COOLANT FANS RELAYS AND FANS.IF VECHICLE OVER HEATING WHILE MOVING THERMOSTAT FAULTY.IF YOU TURN AC AND COOLANT FANS DONT RUN CHECK COOLANT FANS FUSE AND RELAY.IF COOLING FANS DONT TURN ON WITH AIR CONDITIONER ON EITHER COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR FAULTY OR PCM FAULTY.IF ALL LOOKS GOOD.IF ENGINE OIL LOOKS LIKE MILK SHAKE.YOU HAVE BLOWN HEAD GASKET.

Just bought a 1999 aurora with 4.0 liter v8, drove it 2 miles and was smoking from engine compartment smelled like antifreeze

There apparently is a coolant leak, could be the radiator, upper or lower radiator hoses, water pump, heater hoses or thermostat housing gasket.

I just purchased a 1999 Cadillac Deville. Drove fine for a few days. Today I drove 75 MPH for 20 miles on freeway and car began to overheat. Dashboard told me to replace oil. Checked the coolant, it took 1...

When a Cadillac (Northstar) overheats, It will give the message to change the oil. If you run a Northstar and keep running it long enough it will start shutting off cylinders and stop the A/C compressor to help protect itself. In this condition I would check for a blown headgasket. Possibly your technican will find the problem. Could also be stuck thermostat, dirty radiator Thanks

hi from uk the 1st thing to do is check for coolant leak/s you mentioned that you filled up coolant first time o/heated then 10miles and o/heat and loss of coolant ? so there hopefully is a coolant leakage which can easily be fixed diy ? once you locate leakage come back with info so we can help/advise ? then the other question is what is other possible senario ? possible head gasket ? or the water pump which is driven by the cambelt is leaking these possibilities will cost more to fix by garage but not beyond diy if you wish to ?? the point thatdrove 50 mls home ok then another 10 mls b4 you checked coolant ?? oil etc ? rquires some thought as to was this reason for selling ? due to some coolant leakage that prev owner knew of but could not finance repair ? it is not my intention to worry you at this stage but sincerly hope it is a simply fault as i mentioned above SO if you check things i listed and oil level etc also look for any sign that work has recently been done around engine ie clean parts etc if you find anything by all means come back with as much info /symptoms as you can then hopefully we can sort this for you keep thinking positive waves! not negative ps just had a thought! last night here in n/west uk there was very severe frost/freeze and if you had same at your location ? you may have suffered frozen pump / rad / hoses ? resulting in the symptoms you have once engine warms hopefully so will keep finger crossed for you please update best wishes from uk
