These cars are terrible for holding air pockets once the cooling system has been drained.
Run the heater on max and let the car cool, top off the coolant, and repeat the process several times. Also make sure the electric fan assy is functioning. There is a module on the side of the fan assy which occasionally fails. if the fan is working then you probably have air pockets in the cooling system.

You have a bleeder port with a flat head slot on the top thermostat hose, its plastic so be careful. this should be topped off first hand, then the expansion tank secondly....note:: very important that you have the correct thermostat. the ones from autozone & pepboys are incorrect. you must go online and order a thermostat for jag s type, it is very differ from the others and a opening temp at 188 degress, while the others are at 192 degress, which will cause your fans to run extremely high..ocne i did this my fans hardly come on and my cool stays cool

Car overheating replaced everything and still overheats

try a pressure test on the radiator while it engine is running.. If your head gasket is broken the compression of the engine goes into the cooling system. If the pressure rapidy increases it would indicate a head gasket problem.

My 2003 jag s type r is over heating and the fan is staying on for a long period of time. Can you tell me exactly where the thermostat is located?

your thermostat is sticking and is causing the ecu to give a overheating code.Change it immediately...its located at the front of the engine inside the coolant piping that comes together like a y....It has 3 torque head screws holding it one...They sell the thermostat at autozone and discount auto parts...it may have a small copper insert with a bee bee inside it..just remove the copper piece and it will fit perfectly...temp range is 184-193 as specified by jaguar...Good luck and keep me posted.

After driving my 2003 jaguar x type for a while, temperture guage goes to hot and diplay says engine is overheating. i stop, turn car off and recrank, temperture is fine until i drive for a while then...

Thermostat will need to be replaced. I recommend draining a quart of anitfreeze by loosening the petcock on bottom of radiator. Then re-tightening. Then follow upper radiator hose, it will lead right to thermostat housing. It should have about 3 screws/bolts on it to remove. The thermostat is underneath.

Overheating

Hi,
Taking a shot at this, I'd replace the thermostat. If it is partially open at idle it would allow enough coolant to pass through, but at higher revs, that slight allowance may not be enough to keep the engine cool.
It's inexpensive and easy enough to replace.
I hope this helps... Good luck!
