You put the brake fluid in the master cylinder. it is underhood and at the firewall on drivers side, it has a vacuum booster behind it.

Parking brake light is on

The light can come on when the brake fluid is low in the reservoir. Check the brake fluid level and add as necessary using only brake fluid from a sealed container.

If the fluid was low check the brakes. Low fluid can indicate a possible leak in the brake system or worn out brake parts.

Red brake warning light comes on when the car turns a corner or comes to a stop.

fluid is low probably due to worn brake pads. factory specs are dot 3 fluid. fill to full line. may need a flashlight and a funnel to add the fluuid. hope this helps

I have a 2002 pontiac grand prix. my e-brake light will stay on when the e-brake is not on.

Check your brake fluid level. Low fluid levels will cause the brake light to come on. If the fluid is not low, there could be a problem with the emergency brake light switch or the brake fluid level sensor.

Why does the brake light keep coming on when hit a bump

your brake light is probably coming on because the fluid is to low in the resevoir. ther is a sensor in the brake fluid resevoir that is on a float. if the fluid gets to low the sensor tells thebrake light to come on . so if the fluid is just high enough to keep the light off, everytime you hit a bump the fluid sloshes around causing the float to drop and the sensor to turn the brake light on. also when your brake fluid level is low it tells you that you will either need new brakes soon or you might have a leak.

My brake light is on

I assum you mean the brake light on the dash. That light will come on if the park brake is set even if its partly set. It will also come on if the brake fluid is low. If the brake fluid is low check for leaks or low brake pads but you have to find out why the brake fluid is low.

When i go to brake i have a brake light that comes on what is this and what does it mean.

could mean your brake fluid is low, check your fluid and if you need to add fluid and see if the light still comes on. If it does inspect your break pads or check to see if emergency brake is on.

Low brake fluid light comes on when its real cold

A comment from the FixYa Moderation staff:

The brake fluid actually 'contracts', as the ambient temperatures drop. The colder it gets, the more the level is apt to drop, due to this charasteric of brake fluid..

Now, couple this condition with low brake pad thickness, your light will come (the fluid is measured with a sensor in the reservoir) on when it is colder, and go off when the engine compartment warms up; thusly allowing the fluid to expand slightly.

Note that the brake fluid level drops proportionatly to brake pad wear. If you level is low enough to light the light, you are nearing the interval for a brake pad replacement. Adding brake fluid to the master cylinder is NOT advised at this point in time.

If you DO add fluid, and eventually replace the front brake pads, thereafter, the fluid you added will be forced out of the master cylinder, and it will leak all over the paint under the master cylinder. Brake fluid can and will damage painted surfaces.

Best solution we can give you: Simply replace, or have replaced, the front brake pads. The low fluid level condition will rectify itself, as the new pads will force the fluid level in the cylinder reservoir back to its proper level.

Thanks for choosing FixYa

My brake light comes on while driving but the parking brake is not on. Does this mean there is a problem with my brakes? This has happened 4 times in two days. It come on, makes the alert buzz then goes...

Have you checked your brake fluid level? Sometimes, when the brake fluid is just a <little> too low, the brake error light will come on momentarily.
Sometimes parking brakes also stick a little (the cables tend to bind occasionally). This could also be your problem (although I rather doubt it).
Failing this, a quick check of the rotors, calipers, pads, fluid levels and system operation would be advisable.
Hope this helps, Sherwin

Parking brake light

The parking brake and the low brake fluid use the same light. If it comes on during acceleration, your brake fluid level is low and you need to add some brake fluid or replace your pads. The brake fluid gets low as the pads wear as the whole system is hydraulic. Another possibility is a brake fluid leak. As you accelerate, the fluid gets pushed back causing the low brake fluid light to turn on.
