My Dodge 1985 d150 won't start. New starte,

if you hear a loud click from starter it could be the motor contacts in the starter have gone bad. you will have to remove starter and have it repaired or replaced. check again to make sure that the battery is charged up on truck. also check for a loose ground wire to starter or engine block.

Starter will not ingage when turning the key

if you are hearing no noise when you turn to start position,Locate neutral starting switch on transmission,it is a screw in switch, and has three wires at the connector,it is also your back up lights,Check for power there with a test light when key is in start position,if no power check the starter relay on the drivers fender well,

You either have a loose connection at the starter, or loose battery terminal.

You'd be surprised how many calls I got about your problem, and all it was, was a loose battery terminal.

Also, tap on the started itself...or the starter relay (under-hood, driver's side...in Electrical Center Box.)

Good-luck.

p.s. there is no sensor or reset for starter

Where is my starter switch

its most likely the starter but first if you know where the starter is smack it with a hammer a few times and it may start. Also clean the battery terminals. they may be dirty. If this is really a starter issue then if this doesnt work you will need someone to diagnose it so as not to replace the wrong parts

I would check a few things:
Load test the battery. If its got any age on it at all, this could be the culprit.
Test the starter.
Check for loose connections at the distributor cap. Make sure the rotor in the cap is seated and that the cap is properly seated.
Check for loose connections on the battery, the starter and make sure you have fuel pressure on the injector rails (key on, detent the shrader valve .. you should get fuel).

My truck will start a couple of times before something binds and the starter will not turn it over. once its pass that point it will start again a few more times.

From your description it sounds like the starter motor is going out, either bad brushes or the commutator thats not allowing full current flow.

2000 silverado sometimes start, other times not so much

To determine if recognizing park is the issue simply place vehicle in neutral and attempt to start with your foot firmly on the brake. Starter may have a missing tooth or starter solenoid may have an issue. I would also check ground wire to frame and connections at the starter for fraying or loose connection
