Question about Saturn SC1

Battery went dead and now security sys. is activated and dealer wants to change body control module and the passlock sytem @ 1200.00 is this a ploy to get older vehicles off the road, kid in college cant afford new car notes and tuition STEVE sh2ands@yahoo.com

That sounds to me like a shotgun repair from a dealer who is not able to, or just not capable of performing the correct diagnosis procedures to repair the security system, but it is highly un-likely that the entire security system would fail at one time.

That security system can be by-passed for a lot less than $1,200.00, and I know of one for about $45.00, and the passlock by-pass is not very hard to install at all.

If I knew the exact year and make of that Saturn I might be able to come up with a procedure to by-pass that security system without having to purchase anything, and let me know if you require any further assistance.

CHARGE OR REPLACE BATTERY AND TRY RESETTING SECURITY LIGHT BY TURNING IGNITION SWITCH TO THE ON POSITION WITH ENGINE OFF FOR 10 MINUTES.WATCH SECURITY LIGHT WHEN IT GOES OUT TURN IGNITION OFF FOR 5 SECONDS THEN START ENGINE SEE WHAT HAPPENS.

I have tried all the tricks and i still cant get my 2000 impala to start because of the security system.HELP


How do you know it's the security system ? Light lit on the insturment cluster ? If it is there are DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes stored in the BCM - body control module . There are no tricks , have codes checked do the diagnostics for that code , fix the problem an it will start .
The vehicle theft deterrent (VTD) functions are provided by the Passlock system. Passlock consists of the following components:
• A standard ignition key
• An ignition lock cylinder assembly, including a Passlock sensor
• The body control module (BCM)
• The powertrain control module (PCM).
The Passlock sensor contains a magnet on the lock cylinder and a hall effect switch on the surrounding assembly. When you rotate this cylinder using an ignition key with the proper mechanical cut, the magnet on the lock cylinder activates the hall effect switch. When activated, the Passlock sensor provides a unique resistance value to the Passlock data circuit of the BCM. The resulting voltage is measured by the BCM. This voltage value is compared to one stored in memory (a learned value). If the Passlock data voltage value matches the learned value, the BCM sends a password, via the class 2 serial data link, to the PCM. The PCM compares this value to one stored in memory (a learned password). If the passwords match, the PCM enables engine starting.

Safelock on 2006 Pontiac Torrent. Randomly prevents starting. Seems to reset after a day or so. Is there a way to disable


It is the passlock system not safelock An you can't just disable it . It is software program into the BCM - body control module an the PCM - powertrain control module .Simply disconnecting the wires from the ignition to the BCM will render your vehicle useless . If an when the security symbol light is on you need to have it checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes . A GM dealer ,Chevy , Buick , Cadillac etc.... we know Pontiac is no longer around. Everything will work except the PCM will not let the fuel injectors work .

Body Control Module (BCM)
The body control module (BCM) contains the logic of the Theft Deterrent System. The BCM provides the battery positive voltage to operate the Pass lock" sensor. The BCM also measures the voltage of the security sensor signal circuit. The voltage measured will indicate whether the Pass lock sensor has been activated and whether the resistance value from the sensor is a valid value or the tamper value. If voltage measured is in the valid range, the BCM compares this voltage, voltage code, to a previously learned voltage code. If the voltage codes match, the BCM sends a class 2 message containing a password to the powertrain control module (PCM). If the voltage codes do not match, or the voltage is in the tamper range, or there is a circuit fault, the BCM will not send the correct password to the PCM, and the vehicle will not start.
there is nothing you can do , if your vehicle won't start you need to take it to the dealer or a ASE certified repair shop. Messing with the anti-theft system may render your vehicle useless .

Take it to the dealer or a ASE certified repair shop .or go on youtube an check out videos on anti-theft by pass for GM vehicles .There are a few different type's . VATS , pass key 1,2 or three . Being yours is a 2002 model year it isn't the VATS .

I have a Saturn 2001 4door s series the security light is on and won't start what can I do


Passlock
The passlock system is a vehicle theft deterrent system which deters drive-away vehicle theft by disabling engine operation if the ignition lock cylinder is not rotated with the proper mechanically cut key.
The passlock system is made up of an ignition switch assembly, passlock sensor, body control module (BCM), instrument panel cluster (IPC), and a powertrain control module (PCM).
The ignition switch contains a magnet mounted on the lock cylinder and a passlock sensor assembly which consists of security hall effect sensor, tamper hall effect sensor, and output resistors. A drill proof metal shield is also staked over the sensor housing.
The passlock sensor mounted to the ignition switch assembly is located inside the upper right side of the steering column. The passlock sensor contains two hall effect sensors: a tamper hall effect sensor and a security hall effect sensor. The tamper hall effect sensor is mounted on top of the security hall effect sensor. Should someone attempt to defeat the system by use of magnetic experimentation, the tamper hall effect sensor will activate first.
The BCM has the passlock controller integrated into it which controls the majority of the security systems logic. The BCM reads the data from the passlock sensor continuously. If the data is correct and has been received by the BCM within a specified time, the BCM will send a coded password to the PCM. The PCM will then allow the fuel injectors to operate.
The coded password for the security system is sent from the body control module to the PCM via the class 2 data link. If the password is correct and received within the specified time, the PCM will allow the fuel injectors to operate.
The IPC contains the security telltale. The security telltale has three modes of operation, OFF, FLASHING, and ON.
SECURITY TELLTALE will be off if:

2001 saturn lost keys to it. Got it to crank cut right back off secrity lights on bought a brain box for it and got 2keys with it. Still want crank I need to know what to do t could the box be bad ..


No ,the box is probably not bad , but you need to have it programmed . The dealer is the only one that can do that ? The keys don't matter .

There is no fuse for the anti-theft system ! It receives it's voltage from the BCM . Do you know what a BCM is ? It is a Body control module .

The body control system consists of a BCM and it's associated controls. Battery positive voltage is provided to the BCM from CLSTR fuse in the Fuse Block-left I/P. The module ground is wired to ground G201. The BCM is wired to the Class 2 serial data communication bus as well as discreet input and output terminals to control the functions of the vehicles body !

I just installed a new key switch in my 2006 trailblazer it is a napa part now when I start it it will only run for a few seconds and die ?

Ignition Lock Cylinder Case, Including the Passlock?"¢ Sensor
The ignition lock cylinder fits inside the ignition lock cylinder case and operates the ignition switch when turned by a key with the proper mechanical cut. When the ignition key is used to turn the ignition lock cylinder to crank, start, a magnet on the lock cylinder passes close to the Passlock?"¢ sensor within the ignition lock cylinder case. The magnet activates the security hall effect sensor in the Passlock?"¢ sensor which completes a circuit from the security sensor signal circuit through a resistor to the security sensor low reference circuit. The resistance value will vary from vehicle to vehicle.
If a magnet from outside of the ignition lock cylinder case is used to attempt to steal the vehicle, the tamper hall effect sensor will be activated. This completes a circuit from the security sensor signal circuit through a tamper resistor to the security sensor low reference circuit bypassing the security resistor. If the ignition switch is forced to rotate without the correct key, or if the ignition lock cylinder is removed by force, the Passlock?"¢ sensor will be damaged and will not operate.

2002 Saturn L200. Dealer told me I needed to replace the PCM and the passlock module. $800.00. Is there a way to bypass the passlock B.S. Please help car is not reliable. Have children.


no the power control module runs the whole car and the pass lock you maybe can do without it controls the security systems but the pcm is the brain of the car

Body Module went out. Needs replacement


I think you can get one from a saturn dealer for under $400. You will have to have them program it and reset the passlock system so the mileage is correct and the car starts though.
