I am having a problem with my 98 mazda protege, 1.8l car. When i put it in drive, it takes about 2 or 3 seconds most times to really accelerate and when i am at a stop, it idles irratically, fluctuating...

Check the wheels and see if the drums are not tight. and also the erratic Idling Could be from your Torque converter Clutch Solenoid that doesn't work properly and if the Solenoid gets totally bad then your car will be stalling.all Well i can say is Check your transmission fluid level and your brakes. Good luck

2001 mazda protege dx 5 spd dies, brakes are seized up?

It seems that one of the pulleys is bent, or you are using the wrong timing belt. I would suggest changing them. That would probably explain why the timing belt keeps breaking. The braking problem can be related, or you simply have a leak somewhere in the system and should try bleeding the brakes after thorough inspection.

How do you change rear drum brakes for a 1996 mazda protege? I cannot remove rear drum brakes.

If the rear drums are seized you will need to tap on the sides with a hammer while rotating the drum, this will loosen the hardware inside and allow it to come off.

If it is the shoes that will not come off, you need to find the spring and retainer that hold them on and disconnect them.

Mazda protege 1999 rear brake replacement

Have you adjusted the adjuster to bring the shoes close to the drum? Always force the pistons in (the return springs should hold them in) and then adjust to make a tight fit after replacing. When the shoes are on right, there is no way for the piston to come out, as there is only a quarter inch of travel.
