Question about 1994 Honda Accord

Open Question

Cigarette lighter assembly is loose. Is there a way to tighten it other than taking apart the console to get to the back of it? I took out the ashtray and attempted to secure the wire bundle and screw it back in from the front. Should I keep trying that or is there something simple I am missing. Thanks

SOURCE: cigarette lighter came apart...how to gain access to console?

remove the ashtray. then remove the holder for the ashtray. the lighter is just inside. be careful not to short the hot wire to ground. It runs from the battery to the fuse box then to the lighter. Check the fuse if the first if you haven't already.

Yes, there is a "spear point" plastic clip that is still engaged into a socket type holder in the front outboard portion of the tail lamp assembly. Pry gently with a tape wrapped screwdriver at the front outboard corner of the assembly and the clip will release. You will then be able to see how the clip works and will be able to align and engage it first when replacing the tail lamp assembly.

SOURCE: cigarette lighter

There should be a pair of thin metal tabs along the side of the body of the lighter housing. These need to be gently pulled away so that they click underneath the console when inserted.

How do I disassemble the center console in a 2005 Ford Expedition to get to the cigarette lighter that fell into the center console.

All of the plastic simply pulls apart, but be careful to pull straight out. The plastic attaching pieces could be brittle. BTW, the whole interior trim disassembles in this manner.
Take your time.

I have a 2006 Stratus and the cigarette outlet has come unscrewed from the housing and I dont know how to get access to be able to screw it back in.

You have to access the cigarette lighter assembly from behind its mounting. The lighter is clamped in place by a round metal shell with threads. Twist the shell clockwise to tighten the lighter assembly.

Check first the fuse before taking a part the console. Try the plug on another car to truly test it. Other than that it could be the wiring, bad wires or just loose ones and that would be the time to take the console apart and gain access to the wiring and the entire cigarette lighter unit.

Hello and welcome. thecigarette lighter wont come out by taking the dash apart. there is no retainer on the backside that holds it in place. there is a special tool that releases the lighter from the front. here is a picture of the tool

Cigarette lighter plug still does not work after changing fuse.

Possibly the wire has come loose. This happens a lot with lighters! Try putting your finger in ( it won't hurt you, and you won't get electrocuted ), and turning the insides in a clock-wise direction . You will feel the whole lighter tighten up. If this doesn't help, turn it in an anti-clockwise direction. This will take the socket out of the car. Check that the two wires on the back of the lighter are firmly connected. Then put the lighter back in, and hopefully it's OK.

Honda Accord 2002 Cigarette Ligher socket loose

Some of the cigarette lighters have a threaded outer shell that keeps them in place. If you can follow the wires back from the socket there might be a empty "shell" hanging on the wire. Guide it back up to the socket, and while holding the socket in place tighten the shell around the socket.

I assume that you tried the cigarette lighter itself and didnt rely solely that the charger was working properly. When you tightened the ring on caseing did you see that the wire connected on the back of the lighter was properly attatched, sometimes a good connection loosens up especially if caseing was found to be loose.. Well assuming it was properly connected you could test the circuit with either a multimeter or 12 volt test light if power is found at connection then you problem is definetly the cigarette lighter assembly itself.. I hope this was helpful...Let me know I would appreciate it
