Check for a clogged tank vent. A small amount of pressure is normal but not a lot.

Fuel pump replacement for a Ford 1991 Ranger

Remove the gas tank when first emptied out. The pump is inside of the tank. Have the tank supported upon removing so the lines can be removed next then drop it down to remove the top retaining nut to remove the sender with the pump

was the CEL on and fuel cap light on before you had the fuel pump replaced? if it was after the repairs were performed, double check all evaporative emissions lines, hose, and connection on and around the fuel tank. also make the the fuel filler neck is properly seated and clamped to fuel tank. if all good, check the plastic fuel filler top (just behind fuel door, where you put fueling nozzle) make sure it is not chipped or cracked anywhere. especially where the rubber seal from the cap rides.

Motor Craps out

Try spraying starter fluid down your intake and see if that will let it start. If it does, that tells you that the problem is fuel related (which is what it sound like). It could be a clogged filter or bad pump... Let me know what happens and go from there. Goodluck!
