Powersteering and powerbrakes not working

  • You need to specify the particulars of the vehicle. Make, model, year.
  • My first guess is you have a broken fan belt driving the power steering.
  • Power brakes are generally vacuum driven But on certain Dodge chrysler trucks they are driven off of the power steering pump.
  • If it isn't a broken fan belt, the power steering pump is probably either low on fluid or bad.

My chevrolet astro lost power steering and the brakes are hard

Your van sounds like it has hydro-boost.It uses the power steering for brake boost instead of engine vacumme.More than likely you have had a power steering pump failure.

The steering wheel is extremely hard to turn while driving what could be the problem?

The two simplest solutions I could think of are low power steering fluid or the belt that runs the power steering pump could be broken.

2004 ford f250 powerstroke. brake pedal is hard to press at first then goes straight to the floor also power steering quit working at the same time.

Hmm.. Low fluid in the power steering pump, broken belt driving the power steering pump, failed component causing loss of power steering fluid, failed power steering pump.

Check for a broken belt first, check the oil in the pump, look for leakage under the truck.

If the pump is low on fluid you want to put about half the amount in that you're going to need and then start the truck and turn the wheel slowly from stop to stop, each way- spend about ten seconds going from one stop to the other. This will allow any air in the system to be purged out in a controlled fashion, it can really spray if you get a big, compressed bubble of air in the system and release it quickly. Shut the truck off and top the steering pump up, check for leaks.

Chevy silverado power steering

The power steering pump shaft may have broken inside the pump. I have seen this happen on a these trucks. Have your pump checked.

2002 Chevy silverado 2500HD No power steering or brakes

The shaft in your power steering pump has broken. Your brakes work off of a system known as Hydra-Boost. If this shaft is broken then your steering and brakes are lost. I contacted GM after I had my power steering pump replaced and they sent me a check for the cost of my repairs. My truck was not under warranty or recalled but earlier models (2500HD) had been recalled for the power steering pump shaft. The pump was the same part number for my 2002 2500HD as the recalled years. Good Luck!
