Question about 1999 Ford Explorer

1 Answer

I have a 1999 explorer. I felt a little bump while I was driving slowly through a parking lot & all of a sudden it felt like I had no power steering. I pulled over a little further down the road & turned off the car then noticed it was smoking. When I opened the hood, the cap of the radiator was off & there was radiator fluid leaking from the bottom of the car & some squirted on other things under the hood. What should I do?

Check to see if the serpentine belt is broken or has come off the pulleys. One belt runs the power steering and water pump. If the belt is broken or has fallen off, it will need to be replaced.

The Inertia switch. Located either behind a front kick panel or in the trunk, this part has a reset button on it. If the right frequency is felt by door slamming or trunk closing, a Parking lot bump, etc. this part will disconnect the power to the fuel pump.

1999 Chrysler 300M. I was shifting from park to drive felt a pop and suddenly had no resistance. I am sure linkage broke but I don't know how to fix it. It is not like the old days when you could crawl...

The linkage, if broken, would be in the transmission fluid pan area.

I think that if you felt a pop and suddenly had no resistance in the Drive mode, then there is another problem.

I would take the vehicle to a certified transmission shop to see what can be done for it. Many transmission shops will evaluate the problem for free, in hopes of getting business from customers.

I would take it for a second opinion. It takes a lot to crack the CC. Its 4 yrs old so the silenncer box is probably rotten and it dosent take a lot to make them fall apart.

DIsconnext and reconnect the linkage at the transmission. You may want top replace the linkage cable all together. Make sure you set the parking break and block the tires

99 explorer power drivers window won't go up

Suddenly quit & window motor makes no noise at all? Probably the switch. First however, check the fuse. Windows motors do go out but usually begin operating more and more slowly before quitting. 99 Explorer has a good motor history too.

Sounds like a vaccum problem, but I am not sure. It is not vapor locking on you is it? Maybe your fuel pump? A lot of possibilities.

Very bad shaking after hitting a bump

this is known as death wobble because it feels like you are going to die but slowing down will end it.

The cause for death wobble are:
  1. Worn or loose tie rod ends on your steering linkage.
  2. Worn or loose trackbar bushings or tie rod ends on the trackbar itself.
  3. front end needs alignment.
  4. and many others but the common reasons are listed above.
try to realign the front end. If it doesnt help, then you do indeed have worn steering / suspension components.
