P0401-Insufficient flow in the exhaust gas recirculation system (EGR-valve). Check your gas cap for cracked seal, check EGR valve (make sure all vacuum hoses aren't leaking), check also VSV (vacuum switching valve) for proper operation. Its best to get an owner's manual or an experienced mechanic to diagnose!!hopefully this helpd

Code 0401 egr, also engine seems to missfire or

Ok this is a pretty inexpensive problem if you have some basic mechanical skills, and tools. The 0401 code is usually triggered by the egr valve sticking open, or carbon deposits clogging the port into the intake. This acts like a vacuum leak and causes a random misfire situation. Go to your autoparts store and buy an egr valve gasket and a throttle body gasket. Remove the egr vlave and inspect the pintle (the plunger dealie inside there) push it in several times with a small screwdriver and check for sticking. If it appears to be sticking, scrape out what carbon you can and if it has a torx indention in the pintle insert a torx driver of appropriate sixe and turn back and forth while pushing in and out on the pintle to clean. use some carb cleaner to finish cleaning and reinstall egr with new gasket. IF it's NOT stuck, all is not lost but it gets a little harder. If the valve shows no signs of sticking, you will then need to remove the throttle body from the intake, try to do this without unplugging any wires if possible. You can then use a piece of wire (coathanger works well) to clear the port between the egr valve port and intake, remember to stuff some shop rags into the intake before cleaning so carbon bits don't get in there. after clearing the port, reassemble with new gaskets and you're good.

I have a 0401 code light i replaced the egr valve and reset the computer but the light came back on any ideas?

The port from the valve to the intake might be clogged. You might have to shove something in there to check or spry some throttle cleaner in there. Also there is a vsv electrical solenoid controling the egr that might have failed. It is on the back of the engine and diffficult to see.

OBD code 0401 (1997 Toyota Camry 4 cyl)

There is a VSV (vacuum switching valve) , usually mounted on the back side of engine block, under the intake manifold, as well as the map sensor, that can also cause that code if one or the other is faulty. It takes some pretty detailed troubleshooting to confirm this in some cases, so if that's not in your line of work, you may have to have it properly diagnosed, or take a 50/50 shot at which one first.
