Call a locksmith and try to get that key removed, it effects all of the electrical in your car and locks down the shifter as you probably already know about. May have to replace the ignition switch.

when you shut it off were the wheels cranked sideways-sometimes this puts pressure on the locking system and won't let it disengage-try moving the steering wheel back and forth while applying pressure to the key-I hope this helps-cheers Denny

Cant move shifter chev venture

You could disconnect the cable at the transaxle if you need to manually shift the trans, but you would need to disassemble the steering column to move the shift lever without unlocking the key cylinder.

Gearshift won't lock and allow the key to be removed. it stops at the accesory setting. what needs to be done?

mine is having the same problem most likely you have spilled soda on or around the shifter. there is a shift lock actuator which senses when you press on the brake and immediately releases the shifter so you can drive the car if this actuator is jammed or broken it will not lock the shifter in park and it will also not allow the park sensor to send the signal to the ingnition to free your key. what is to be done. i am going to take the top of my shifter apart and clean all thats in there. most likey the actuator is merely jammed in place by a bunch of gunk build up you will also find your park sensor wired closely to your overdrive kill or HOLD switch good luck

My ingnition lock is stuck in the on position and i cant move it back the car wont shut off because of it how do i fix it. Its a 1986 olds cutlass

Sorry to say the tumblers in your ignition lock cylinder are jambed causing the key to be stuck in it. A new lock cylinder is the only fix for this. Any major auto parts store sells the lock or any GM Dealership Parts Department can get you one also

Key Stuck in ythe ingnition

There is a hole under the steering column right near the ignition switch, if the key gets stuck, stick a pen or something in the hole, you will feel the little lever move and you can remove the key.

Key stuck in igntion 2005 five 4 cylinder

The key being stuck in the ignition is because the cars gears wont go into park all the way.. The shifter is the problem with this. You need to take it to a mechanic so they can take your actual shifter apart and fix the little button you press on the actual shifter. Sounds dumb, but thats what they did for me, and the key comes right out. Also, if you dont get it fixed soon, you will have some horrible times ahead of you .. Key stuck in the ignition

it is on the shifter, remove the cover, and you will see it near the gear at the bottom of the shifter, it is the only thing with a wire going to it on the bottom of the shifter. it is held in with 2 small screws.
